A Haircut and a Bonfire!!

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Mexico

Today marked the start of the spring departures in our park.  Normand and Suzanne and Doug and Darcy both left today to start their migration north.  Normand and Suzanne went as far as San Luis Polosi today which is over half way to the Texas Border.  Doug and Darcy will be spending a few days at Lake Chapala before heading out to Texas as well.  We hope to see Normand and Suzanne here next fall but Doug and Darcy have plans for other travels next year.  Its been fun!!

Susan had made an appointment for Archie to get a haircut today.  It is time to get a little bit of a trim before we start heading back home.  We headed downtown to drop him off at 9 am.

He was a little sceptical as we got closer to the groomer.  The groomer is actually the vets wife so he has to go through the vet clinic.  It is funny how animals can smell that place and tend to be hesitant.  I had to physically lift him into the clinic but once he was in, he was ok.

They told us to come back around 11 to pick him up so we had time for breakfast.  We went to a little German place for a change.  The breakfast was ho hum but filled the belly.

After breakfast we did a couple errands.  One of the things was to check out internet providers to see if we could get our own internet supply.  We had trouble finding the place as it is a small place and was hidden behind a delivery truck.  Can they fix us up?  Well of course they can and its not that expensive.  We will see how it works.  They said they will install it in a couple days so we can try it this year before leaving and then we will have it for next year if its a good thing.  A couple Mexican days could mean a week, so we are not holding our breath.  (Remember the word "Manana").

The other errand was to buy a couple nice cushions from the fabric store.  I have a plan for them!!!

Then we were off to pick up Archie.  My he looks and feels sooo good after a grooming.  Because he is a part wire hair terrier, his hair gets quite course as it grows out.  When he gets a trim, they take it right down to the underfur which is really soft.  We got them to leave his ear tufts which gives him personality along with the eyes!!

When we got home I threw the cushions, guess where?  Yup, in the back of the Jeep on the plywood frame I had built.  They will do for now until I can find an actual seat for back there.  Better than just plywood.

We had a nice little gathering at the palapa tonight for happy hour with some nice treats and a couple games of Skip-bo.  Sorry Normand and Suzanne that you were not here tonight to play.

I tried a couple different things for the sunset pic tonight.  I locked in a picture of the sun in one of them!!  The sun is moving fast out into the ocean.  We notice the movement every day.

We topped it all off with a nice fire.  Thanks for getting the wood arranged John.

I saw this picture on FB and thought what is it about.  Then I read on and it is quite true.  We are so concerned in how we look on the outside that we don't work on building the inside.  The inside is what really counts.  It is the part that is most important when the day is over.

That's how some houses are, that's how some people are, that's how some lives are.
Only façade, no content.
I thought about it, and yes, it's true!!  It must be lonely living there.  Think about it!!

Good Night!!

Hamburger Night and a Silent Auction

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Mexico

There is always someone that wants to be buried in the sand.  This little guy was grinning from ear to ear first of all that he was being buried and secondly because I took his picture.

Today we were invited to hamburger night at the La Penita RV Park.  We like to participate in these events because they are fundraiser's for the education fund.  That fund supplies much needed money to send local students to university.  The park normally sets a goal of supporting 11 students through their education.   Tonight in addition to the hamburger sales, they were having a fundraiser as well.  Joel and Louise did a great job organizing it and I think it even exceeded their expectations.

One of the best items was a half dozen butter tarts made by Karol.   We paid 650 pesos to take a package home with us.  They were baked today the Canadian way and are sooooo tasty.

After the auction we spent some time at the bar visiting with old friends.  It is so neat that we can still be included in some of the social activities at the park.  Our butter tarts were under the careful watch of everyone and we had to tell them quite often, not to look at them cause they weren't getting a bite!!  In the end we only escaped with 4 tarts, and they didn't last past 10 pm.

We enjoyed our time visiting as always.

And Steve and Julie looked after our parchment needs quite professionally!!  Thanks!  I think a good night was had by all.  Goodnight!

Friends Leave, and Start of a new Seat for the Jeep

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Mexico

We have had a couple of truck campers spending time with us for the last 2 weeks.  They are from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and they have been touring Mexico.  Today was the day they were moving on.  We wish them safe travels and maybe our paths will cross again some day.

Today I worked on replacing the back seat in the Jeep so we can take other people with us when we go on some of the back trails.  I got the plywood all cut, fitted and screwed down.  Now for some cushions.

The rest of the day was spent sitting around relaxing and watching the dogs play.  Not much else happened.

Not Much to Report

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Mexico

The ocean is a crazy thing.  Yesterday there was nothing but sand on the beach and this morning when we went for a walk there was course gravel all the way up and down the beach.  Down by the fishermans boats it was piled 2 feet high.  It amazes me where the gravel comes from so quickly and then where it disappears to just as quickly.

Sue and I took a little walk up town this afternoon and saw a lady with the tiniest little dog.  She was all happy that we wanted a picture.

Later in the afternoon I headed up to the La Penita Trailer Park for their last Beer Can Races of the season.  My gosh time has flown by and people are starting to head north already.

After Beer Can Races were over I walked down the beach while heading home.  Some of the local fishermen were trying their luck with a throw net.  They caught a few nice little fish.  I don't know if they were going to eat them or use them for bait to catch bigger fish.  Everyone in the family gets involved when it comes to putting food on the table.

We had food on our table today and we didn't have to do much to get it.  For that we are very thankful.  Hope things went well for you as well!!

How a Fishermans Day Ends!!

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Mexico

Not much happening around here today.  Larry is getting all the stripes and decals redone on his truck camper.  He is using the same people everyone else has used and they do the decals by hand.  Here is how they tape it off and then the end product.

Sue and I took a walk downtown and as we were going by the fishermen, a boat was coming in to the beach for the day.  I got a few pictures of the neat way they do this.  Before doing this he drops all his crew off as close to shore as possible, then he roars out and sits watching for just the right wave.  Then he guns it just like an airplane on the takeoff roll.  Here he comes!!

His crew man holds up a red pole for him to aim at so he doesn't run into any of the parked boats.

At the last minute he lays down his pole which will be used for a roller, and dives out of the way!!!

The boat slides up the sand and plastic pipe rollers for about 75 feet before coming to a stop.

Thats it for another fishing day here in La Penita, Mexico.  Hope you had a wonderful day as well. Goodnight!!
