Old Friends and New Friends!!

WHERE ARE WE? Canoa Ranch Rest Area South of Tucson
NEXT DESTINATION? Santa Ana, Sonora, Mexico

We had some extra friends for morning Happy Hour this morning.  Our friends Michael and Sandra showed up yesterday to spend some time with us here before we head to Mexico.  They had considered coming with us for a while but circumstances just won't let it happen right now.  We enjoyed chatting for a while along with Pat and Harold.

Today we start our journey to Mexico.  We will travel for 6 days before arriving in La Penita.  We can hardly wait.  I got a bunch of stuff loaded up in the basement ready to depart.

Our travels today will not be long, but we will pick up some water, fuel up, and get some groceries.   We will spend the night at Canoa Ranch Rest Area just south of Green Valley AZ.  We will cross the Mexican border tomorrow morning and after getting our FMM and TIP we will continue on to Punta Vista RV Park in Santa Ana, Sonora, Mexico.

I had to put some air in one of my tires on the Jeep so Michael offered the use of his portable Air Pump.  It worked quite good and we got the tires all up to 20 lbs pressure.

Shortly after we had an afternoon Happy Hour.  It was a quick one because we all planned on leaving in midafternoon, and it was sneaking up on departure time.  We are grateful that they decided to hunt us down so we could spend some time with them.

It wasn't long and I fired up the Ponderosa and hooked up the Jeep, and Sandra and Michael broke camp and headed out.  They are heading to the Pima Fairgrounds where they will get their windshield replaced tomorrow.  Yes, I know you think I should get mine replaced as well, but that is a job for next spring when we get home.

We headed out a little bit late and got our water and some fuel further down the road.  We arrived at the Rest stop as planned about 4 pm.

Arizona allows overnight sleeping in all of their rest stops but no camping.  You are considered camping if you put out your slides or put your stabilizers down, or set up a BBQ and lawn chairs.  So, we will be "sleeping" here tonight!!

About 7 pm we were joined by Bev and Craig who will be travelling with us.  They came from Denver to meet us here and we are happy to have them along.

We set up a quick meeting to discuss what I call "Caravan Etiquette".  It's good to have some base rules when travelling together so everyone knows what to do if something goes wrong.  There could be mechanical problems, or traffic stops along the way and we all need to handle them safely.  Also, we have to determine the departure time for tomorrow.  Anyway, we had the meeting at this picnic table, and no, I didn't take a picture.  We are looking forward to tomorrow so goodnight!!
