A New Grand Baby!!

WHERE ARE WE? Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers Manitoba Canada
NEXT DESTINATION? Head South in the fall

We finally made it back to our Ice Cream Shack in Rivers Manitoba.  The day was beautiful and we had an uneventful drive back.  We were home just in time for the birth of our newest Grandson, Lincoln.  He is the son of our son Derek and his wife Nicole and a brother to Abby, our angel Clayton, Silas, and Emma.   Around supper time we got a text saying that things were starting and by 9:15 he was here.  Nicole and Derek wanted a home birth and they opted to have him at Nicoles parents house where Nicole was raised.  I think that was a good choice.  It's kind of crappy that we won't be able to snuggle him for a while but hey, that's the way it is.  Welcome to the family Lincoln!!

Just a few kilometers to go today and we will be home.

For anyone interested, this was our trip home this year.

The roads got progressively worse the farther north we went.  Canadian roads are almost like Mexican side roads with topes except ours are upside down and we call them potholes!!  Familiar countryside starting to show in our windshield now.  It was warm enough that there were quite a few bugs.

And then down the road through Rivers.  We are almost home??

We got there and backed into our spot by the shack.  This is where we will be locked down for the next 14 days.  Kaitlyn brought us a bunch of supplies to make sure we don't starve.

I got out the caution tape and the "keep out" signs and roped off our shack area.  We don't want anyone coming into the area while we are self isolating.   We do have to get CJ's ready for business in mid May so this way we can work on that while still isolating.

The border crossing was a little different this time because they stopped us at the US side to check our health status.  The guy collected our passports in a coffee container on a stick and asked all the questions about how we were feeling. At the end he said how silly it was because even if we were sick, they would have sent us on to Canada because like he said, "we don't want you if your sick, we have enough of our own!"   Of course I'm sitting there listening and I really really really needed to sneeze but I managed to fight it off!  So then on to the Canadian side.  They were not interested in anything except reading us the riot act on the quarantine and reiterating about 3 times that it is a million dollar fine if we don't self isolate.  She asked why we didn't come home when we were first asked to, and I just said because we wanted to stay warm!!  Guess that was good enough lol.  She told us again about the million dollars and told us to have a nice day!!!  Not a word about booze or how much we bought or anything like that.  So they sent us off to Corona Prison!!

We are happy to be back home and settled in and we are super happy that we have another little one in our family.   We are so blessed.   Although I can't leave our little taped off area to get good sunset pictures, here is what we saw tonight.  I love the picture of the trees that turned red with the sun.  Hope everyone had a great day too.

  3. Congratulations on the beautiful new grandbaby. Looking at his little face my first thought was I think he agrees it is crappy that he cannot get cuddled by you both. I must say Tom and I had a good chuckle reading about your border crossing. Really, really liked your answer about why you did not come back right away when you were asked. Again congratulations to you, Sue and your family on the new precious little one.

  5. Congratulations Gram and Gramps! He's gorgeous! Love the name too. His siblings will be excited.
I'm more than pleased that your park is not closed. We don't realize how blessed we are that we have the Ridge until we hear about our friends who can't get in to their 'home' campground. :(
You are taped in so still have an area where you can get out and walk around the unit and work in the shack. Hope your weather gets and stays warm too.

  6. Thx Patsy. Yes we are lucky. We were wondering how they might view us coming here but it is a little different situation for us.
