Gopher Hunting in Nebraska

WHERE ARE WE? Grand Island, Nebraska
NEXT DESTINATION? Slowly North

Like yesterday we were in no hurry to get on the road.  We have 230 kms to go today and we will end up in a Walmart parking lot.  We are going to do some shopping for home tonight.  There are some things that are cheaper even with the exchange so we will pick them up tonight.  We got on the road about 2:30 this afternoon.  The morning was lovely and we just sat around and soaked up the sun.

Our trip today took us through a few neat towns.  They sure do have some awesome downtown buildings.  The brick buildings look so stately.

About 3/4 of the way through our trip today we crossed into Nebraska.

They tell us that Nebraska has not locked down as severely as other states mainly because the population is sparse so they have been social distancing for a long time.  That is probably true in the rural areas, but as we went through Hastings, the amount of traffic definitely picked up.  As soon as we got north of town the traffic went back to like 1 car every 5 miles.

It wasn't long and we were parked up at Walmart in Grand Island Nebraska.  And off we went shopping.  The store was not busy at all and social distancing was a breeze.  There was lots of toilet paper by the way!!!

After shopping Charlie and I went for a walk in the field across the way.  I let him off his leash and away he went.  The field was full of wipes from Walmart.  This will be the new problem in cities.

He wasn't long and he found a gopher to try to dig up.   He snorted and stuck his nose in the hole and even tried to dig a little bit but his feet just won't allow for that.  He spent 15 minutes before giving up and heading home.

We have one more slow day tomorrow and then we will pick up the pace for a couple days.  No use hanging around anywhere where it will be a little cool.  But tonight we are warm and dry and all tucked up for another night.  This is the view out our window.  Hope you are warm too wherever you are.

  1. I don't blame you for taking it slow while you are in warm temperatures.
I noticed something on your windshield in the pix with the Nebraska sign. Spider or stone chip? Either one = yeuch.
I'm glad you were able to stock up with food items at the Walmart.
    Safe travels.

    1. Both sides of our windshields are like a road map with cracks. And the spider is a bit stone whelt we got about 5 days after we replaced that side of the windshield the last time!!

Hope you were able to stock up for your Two Week Self Isolation unless you'll be making another stop before crossing the Border.
Safe Travels and Enjoy the freedom.
