We were up early this morning so we could head for Apache Junction and start to get the Ponderosa cleaned up for Graces arrival tomorrow. Now I know all you guys will say, how long could that take. Well I am writing this at 10:30 pm and we are still not ready. Its just something males will never understand. By the time we woke, Pat and Harold had already taken their trailer to Arizona Spring to get the broken springs fixed. We are leaving them behind to catch up to us at a later date. Ed and Lessie are with us but they went into Casa Grande to get the Bird and car washed and waxed while we headed straight to our favourite spot.
The crazy traffic is one reason that we don't care for the Interstates, but there are also times when they become a necessary evil. Today was one of those times. We wanted to get settled in early today. I don't mind driving with lots of traffic, but you don't get much time to look around.
Susan loves this spot looking at Superstition Mountain and as we came over the hill she said "We are Home"! She would live here for the rest of her life if she could. I like it too because we are 10 minutes from downtown Apache Junction and 20 minutes from downtown Mesa where you can find anything you need, but where we are parked, there is not a single soul anywhere around except for a few ATV's and dirt bikes. For the most part it is very peaceful.
But the catch is that you don't want to be faint of heart because the road in is full of potholes, some up to 18" deep, so if you are thinking of coming here, unhook your towed or trailer and scout the road first. And there are cactus everywhere, so pick your spot carefully.
Oh yes, and it is warm finally, in the 70's today. We sat outside and soaked up the sun for a while while taking in the beauty of the mountain.
Ed and Lessie got set up behind us with a great view of the mountain too! I know we are kinda cuddled together, but there is not a lot of room between cactus and we don't mind them as close neighbours. Actually I was the one that talked them into parking there.
They got there stuff set up and came over to share the view of the mountain. There are lots of people who hike up this mountain and it is fun to watch them with the binoculars.
One of the things that really disappoints me with the human race is the need to dump garbage in these beautiful areas. First thing we found near our site was an old TV.
To help us forget about it all we had to do was look over our shoulder and we watched an absolutely gorgeous sunset behind us. Life is so good and we are so lucky to be able to enjoy these great spots that very few other people find or can negotiate into.
The view out our window today was awesome and will be much the same for about 10 days.
Our Location tonight: BLM near Superstition Mountain, Apache Jnct. AZ 33.4602 - 111.5085 Boondocking
"Away" is a place not found on a map, but you'll know you're there when you get there. And then it happens. One day you wake up and you're in this place where everything feels right. Your heart is calm, your soul is light, your thoughts are positive and your vision is clear. Your faith is stronger than ever and you're at peace. At peace with where you've been and with what you've been through and at peace with where you are headed. A place called away.
Oh I love your spot. What a fantastic view you have.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the garbage scattered around either. It makes absolutely no sense to me at all. I wonder if they throw garbage on their lawn at home or the driveway?
Oh a hike up the mountain is just a fantastic idea. I'm looking forward to reading about YOUR hike up the mountain.
Enjoy your wonderful spot.
One of the problems with boondocking sometimes is what to do with our garbage. You just gave me an idea. I will just drive into town and throw it on a lawn. Thanks for the idea. (kidding) I will not be hiking up the trail. My old ticker would not handle that. Flat land for me.
DeleteLooks like a nice location. Too bad about the tv, that's sad really.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the sunrises and sunsets and the mountain.
I know my pictures are not nearly as nice as yours, but one just can't help but share what we see.
DeleteWhat a beautiful spot! Great out the window view.
ReplyDeleteWe do not understand the garbage either. We have been down back roads stopped to peek into an old abandoned mine (hole in the ground) and looked down to see large appliances. It is sad but you do have one beautiful view to distract you. Enjoy!
Oh yes, we are not detracted by the garbage. We will find a place to get rid of the TV and help out a little bit around here.
DeleteLooks like a great spot! Enjoy :-)
ReplyDeleteIts a good one.
