Bentley Museum

Because we are visiting our kids and just doing whatever we feel like, sometimes a blog is not part of our day.  I like to have a record of what we do each day so I have to post a few blogs in a row just so I can refer back to them at a later date.   Hope you still enjoy reading them even though they are a few days behind sometimes

We have been enjoying our time here and soon it will be time to head east again.  The weather has been less than enjoyable but the company has been the best!  This morning Sheri and I decided to go down and check out the local Museum.  It is a small one but I always figure that you find out a lot about a community by knowing the history.  The museum is partly in a restored farm style house which brings back a lot of memories for me.  I was born and raised on a small family farm and remember my grandparents living in a house much like this, with much the same furnishings.  Boy am I ever old!!!

Lots of things in the museum to remind me of my past.  I remember my grandparents living room as a semi sacred place.  As a kid you went in and sat quietly and listened to the adults.  It was a great day if they happened to ask you a question.  Sometimes someone would get out a guitar and a mouth organ and the place would erupt into song!

I remember grammas kitchen looking just like this only there was always fresh bread and a pie or two on the counter.  Great memories.

Anyone remember the General store.  A pop was 15 cents and you got 2 cents back if you brought back the bottle.  And yes all the pop was in glass bottles.

I went to a small country school much like this display for 7 years.  We had 10 to 13 kids from Grade 1 through to Grade 8 there.  It was so neat how the older kids actually taught the younger ones a lot of what they learned.  I am so glad I got to experience that.

I got a charge out of the little girl looking out the front window of the museum.  It would be neat if they had a dim light on her face at night.  It would really creep the kids out that have to walk by.

One of the things that Bentley boasts is that this is the home town of Dick Damron!  Dick spent a lot of time in Bentley and area when he had the time.  Our SIL Gord's dad, Rick knew him when he was here.  Dick spends a lot of his time in Matzatlan now and still loves to sing at the age of 85.  We have a friend from Rivers, Davy Oakey, that does the same thing as Dick and so when we head to Mexico next fall, it would be neat to stop there and meet up with both of them!   Dave plays and sings at the Macaw which is a restaurant in Mazatlán and I'm sure he knows Dick.

I stopped briefly to visit my friend who had got a little rowdy last night!  He was still sleeping so I didn't bother to post bail for him.

In the afternoon we headed into Red Deer to do some shopping for CJ's.  They have a Wholesale Club and that is where we buy most of our supplies.  This was our cart before we started and believe me it was full and another small cart filled before we left.  We buy all our bulk paper supplies here for the entire summer.

Lunch today was at Boston Pizza and Sheri treated Sue and I to a nice lunch.  I love the baked spaghetti there.

That was about it for our day.  We headed home early and watched a little TV and then off to bed.  This was the view out our window today.  The snow is gradually disappearing
