Rain Rain, go away. Come again another day.

It rained all night off and on and made for quite a soupy mess outside.  The red dirt seems to track in everywhere and makes for steady floor sweeping. One of the things we have to be aware of here, is that it can rain in the desert, and when it does the ground does not react like it does at home.  You can become stranded by either really slippery ground, or if there is enough rain it can wash down the gulches fast and furious and strand you on the other side for a while.   This rain was more of an inconvenience than a danger of any sort.

The top clay on the roads seemed quite firm, however after the rain it is like the water mixed with it and made soup.  Very hard for a vehicle to get around in.

During the day lots of little squalls went through but most of them were west of us nearer the mountain.  Where we are parked we can see for miles in any direction so we can track the storm for a long way.

This squall added some snow to the mountain I'm sure.

After it went through we could see snow up in the mountains but it melted very fast.

Harold and I experienced a little sleet storm when we went to town in the afternoon.  Another winter experience for us.

Sue got her Cell booster today so because it needs a ground plane and we don't have a metal plate yet to fasten to the roof, I put it on a cookie sheet and set it on top of the air conditioner for now.  I had to pick the right time to do it between the rain showers.

While I was up there I took a couple pictures of the clouds shrouding the mountains just before sunset.

Sunset itself was another breath taking one.  Tonight it looked like the mountain was on fire.

Tonight we are camped on BLM land near Cottonwood AZ at 34.66837, -111.9620 and this is the view from our window.

  2. I bought my first cowboy hat in Cottonwood, the first year of our travels. That is a pretty place. Wind and rain are the curse in the West. Luckily, neither are frequent. Just don't get stuck in the mud.
