Heading into Hurricane Country

We got an early start today so that when we get to Panama City Beach we will still have some day left to tour. Sues Mom and Dad used to winter in Panama City Beach so it is like familiar territory to her and I.  We went by the Seaside Villa's where they used to stay and the villa looks good except for the fact that the rain or the ocean had flooded the first floor of a couple buildings.  Mold is the big thing to get rid of, so they are completely re-doing those units.  Sues' Uncle and Aunt come here every year and we hope to visit them in February for a few days on our way through.

One of the things we want to do is find out if we might be able to dry camp in St Andrews State Park in February while we visit Uncle Terry and Aunt Dianne, even if the parks services are not ready.  We had reservations but they were cancelled a few days ago, we guess due to the hurricane.  There was no real explanation.

That was all we got in the email.  When we went to the park today, they confirmed that it was due to the hurricane, and told us that there was a small maybe that we would be able to dry camp there in February.  We will cross that bridge when we come to it.

We were taken back by the damage that Hurricane Micheal had done in early October.  It is hard for us Canadian prairie boys to fathom the power of the wind and the ocean.  Panama City Beach was not as bad as we had thought it might be, but right across the bridge in Panama City the destruction was a bit unsettling.  We certainly feel bad for the people of this area but they all greet us with a smile, and they all say, we will get through this.  I'm not sure if I would feel so upbeat about such a situation.  Here are some pictures of the devastation we saw today in Panama City.

When we got back from out tour we had to do the Walmart tour because that is where we are staying tonight.  While walking around I saw this and had to laugh.  Do you see why I was laughing?  What is it?  Hope you are not one.    Tell me in your comments if you see what I saw.  I will tell you what I saw tomorrow.

  1. Ha ha, guess I'm looking too hard. I only see a Hippo in a crate. Cute but not what you're referring to, I'm sure.

  3. All I see is a hippo as well. That's sad about St. Andrews State Park, we stayed there five years ago and really enjoyed it. Hopefully you will be able to dry camp in February.
