A Nice Little Tour and Hike to the Petroglyphs

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

Today we decided it was time to take a little tour up into the mountains to explore with Jeff and Fany, Theo and Max.  We were the tour guides and took them up to a little town perched on the side of the mountain called Alta Vista.  Alta Vista means High View, and that's what you get from up there.  You can see for miles. It was a little bit hazy today, but the view was still there, just not a great day for pictures though. Walking the streets here is not for the faint of heart.

All of the horses were saddled and ready to go.

Parakeets outside some of the houses

Everything has flowers

Lots of simple Christmas reminders

Houses perched on the side of the mountain

Beautiful views on the way up

Narrow little streets.  Very steep here.

We literally wore out our welcome!  Get it?

We headed down the mountain again and headed for the petroglyphs.  On our way we stopped to look at an RV park that our friend Steve has been working on developing.  It is a very interesting spot with a view of the ocean.  Right now he uses it for summer storage for snowbird RV's.

Lots of hookup spots

Some turkeys running around.  They escaped Christmas

The cowboy at the gate

Then it was off to the petroglyphs.  We had a narrow little windy cobblestone road to follow.  Not many places to pass but we were lucky.  We only met 2 vehicles where there was a wider spot so no one had to back up.

After about 30 minutes of bumping along we got to the parking lot.

The hike and the scenery are the highlight of this hike.  Although the petroglyphs are something amazing from the past, a lot of the spectacle is the way the rocks have been worn by the water over the years.  The hike is a gentle one for even an old man like me, but a walking stick is almost a must.  The hike is maybe a half mile long.

Somebody told be what kind of tree this is but I forgot.

The only picture

Beautiful rock formations where waterfall normally is.

Beautiful pool.  Not much water running.

Awesome picture of where falls normally are

I just realized that I didn't take a single picture of a petroglyph.  They were on all the rocks you can see around but on the other side of the rocks you see.

So when we got done with the hike, you guessed it, everyone was hungry so we stopped at a roadside restaurant that we had drove by many time, but never have stopped.  It is in La Lima which is just north east of La Penita.  We were glad we did because it had awesome food.

I wasn't in charge of the camera today so lots of me photos

Me again!!

good sized restaurant

A huge pinata

Ok who got the best food!

Theo won with his tuna

He ate the whole thing!!!

Well our bellies were full but we all decided to head downtown to see Kenia and get some frappes.  She was actually quite busy which is good.  She has not been as busy this year as in past years.  We passed the policia as well as some neat little restaurants on the side streets.

Today was a pretty good day.  We saw a lot of things and enjoyed every minute.  Thanks for coming along guys!!  Good Nite!!
