Delivery Day at Cj's

WHERE ARE WE? Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers Manitoba

This morning there was a little over 1 tenth of rain in the gauge in the last 24 hours.  It would be nice to see a little more rain to make things green up again.  The hot 30C+ weather is a little hard on the grass with no rain.  Fingers crossed

Today is order day for the shack and our delivery truck shows up about 6:30 with all our stuff so Sheri and I have a quick coffee on the deck from 6:15 until he arrives and then we get to work.  We had 2 full pallets of stuff today so we were busy unpacking and putting away a wide array of stuff.  Everything from chicken fingers to cheeze to buns to bacon arrived in this shipment.

Not to mention the 30 pails of ice cream that has to find freezer space.  We used to feel bad getting that great big truck to come to us to deliver for a little $600 order.

Well not any more!!!  Our order today was close to $4000.00 which included lots that will go to Hamiota for Cj's on the Links.  

That big of an order generates a lot of cardboard boxes.  What a colossal waste they are.  Terran will just break them down when he comes to work tonight and put them in the dumpster.  Most of the stuff we get could be easily delivered in its original packaging especially the ice cream.  The pails are packed 2 to a box.  Or we could break them down and send them back to be used to package our next order.  Nope!!  Instead we pay for the box in our prices and then we pay again to get it hauled to the dump.  Our world needs to change real quick when it comes to waste!  (Don't get me started!!!)  Didn't do much for the rest of the day because I was tired from rising early.  So off to bed I went.  Good Nite!!!

The Making of a Mountain

We had a good rain last night.  We could use lots more but with this heat we don't want the hail.  8 tenths of an inch!!!

Sheri and Lilly the dog, joined me on the deck this morning for coffee.  We solved all of the worlds problems in about a half hour.  I think Archie was a bit bored.

Well today we are going to try a new thing on the golf course.  Cristian came about 8 am to set up to build a mountain for a golf challenge.  He owns a company called Foam Tech here in Rivers and he said that he would love to build an obstacle for one of the holes on the golf course.  He got busy getting everything together for building it.  A couple barrels to take up space and some plywood and 2 x 6 for a ramp.  

Then he fired up his foam machine and started building.  He has a good sized unit with a diesel engine.  

I didn't get an pictures of the process because I had to go to town to cut grass at all the Manitoba Housing facilities. 

When I got back he was pretty much finished.  It looks pretty good but needs a bit of tweeking to get the ball to go where it is supposed to go.  We will do that another day.  So far, so good.  We will paint it up to look like a volcano!!!  Instead of carpet on the fairway part it now has the same thing as they use for box liners in trucks.  It will last forever I'm sure.

Last night our secretary Samantha for the Friends of Rivers Lake, delivered a new sign to me to put up here at the Provincial Park.  The sign shows all the walking and biking trails that are around here.  We have a real nice scenic trail system.  I took it up to the Parks maintenance shop so they can mount it in the appropriate spot. 

After supper we got a tornado and thunderstorm warning on our phones.  Because we are down low, we can't really see storms approaching so I went up top to see what was in store.  It was pretty nasty looking.

It got to raining real good so I headed down to the shack.  It was obvious that there was lots of wind but nothing to indicate a tornado.  

It did hail a bit but not a whole lot.  Some of the hail was golf ball size but most was smaller.  We found out later that town got hit with hail pretty bad and our daughters car has some good pock marks.  What hail we got sure was loud on our tin roof!!

That was our day again.  The shack was open from 4 to 9 but the last couple hours were rained out.  I'm off for some sleep.  Good Nite!!

Meetings, meetings, meetings!!!

When I went to do the blog post tonight, I realized that I didn't have a single picture of my day.  I had to quick think of some things to take a quick picture of that could make a story.  First I will report on the portion of my day which was not documented visually.   

My day was full of meetings.   We had a Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon in Rivers.  Cj's is a member of the Chamber and it is important in the smaller towns that businesses support each other.  

Once that meeting was over I headed back to the lake for a meeting with our food wholesaler representative.  Geoff from Pratts spent an hour and a half hearing our concerns and suggesting solutions where he could.  The food industry is changing fast and pricing is certainly important to us, but just as important is the quality of the food we produce.  We need high quality supplies to maintain our high standards.

I had some computer work to do after that in preparation for our Friends of Rivers Lake meeting at 6 pm.  I am the president of that organization so I had to make up an agenda.  The vice president takes over for the winter months and I really appreciate that.  We identify and try to find solutions for problems in and around our lake.  

Of course while I was on the computer I ended up going down the rabbit hole and finding a couple neat things.  The first is a little tongue in cheek instruction manual for fire departments.  I had to snicker a bit.

The second thing was this very true quote.  It has been my motto all my life.

Also today I was thinking of a fellow blogger friend who passed away a couple years ago.  We have met so many wonderful people in our travels over the last 8 years and George and Suzie are two of them.  Some of them have passed on as has George in 2020.  George wrote Our Awesome Travels. and if ever you want to know what RV life is about you could read for hours about his adventures.  He always used to close his posts with a picture of his supper which was normally cooked on his webber.  

My friend Patsy who writes Chillin with Patsy has carried on the picture of supper tradition, but I don't think she will mind if I post a picture of my supper in honour of George!!!  Pork chop (not on the webber) beans and baked potato.

The highlight of my evening was writing this blog.  I am glad I have decided to keep writing this summer and I hope you enjoy a little insight into what Sue and I do to keep busy.  We have lots planned for this summer and we hope we can entertain you with our adventures.  Good Nite!!!

This morning I had a shitty job!!  Actually its not a bad job as long as you are careful.  We do not have sewer at our site so I have to haul it away.  We do have a bathroom not that far away with showers and toilets, so there is not much of a load on the motorhome system.  It is still nice to have a shower at home once in a while and of course old people need night time facilities.  Why am I going into all this detail?  Do you really want to hear it?  It only takes about 3 trips to deal with the whole mess so its not a bad chore.

The parks lagoon is just up the road so that is where I dump.  Archie likes to come with me to chase gophers.

I like the lagoon because there is no danger of spills and no clean up.  I just lift it up in the air and it is gone!!!  Notice how green the grass is around where I dump!!

One of the other summer time jobs I have along with Sheri, is contract caretaker for a 12 suite seniors affordable housing unit along with 14 single dwelling houses.  We do grass cutting at some of the units and some basic troubleshooting

and cleaning.  We have a young lady who does all the cleaning so I don't have to do it.  I am more in charge of the technical things such as fire alarm systems and the cooling and heating systems.  Today I went in to do my checks on all the systems.

Then I went back to the shack to sharpen all of the lawn mower blades.  I will have to mow grass in town on Wednesday and down at the lake on Thursday so I need to be ready. 

There we are already for some grass.  The blades are in pretty rough shape so I guess next time they are dull it will be time to replace them.  I did a little relax on the deck for about 10 minutes tonight.  That pretty much filled up my day.   Good Nite!!!

And Thats Just What we Do.

Just a quick post today about a couple things we do here in the shack.  Sue cleans out ice cream pails!!!  She also cooks the hamburgers or at least today she was!

I make the hamburgers.  All of our hamburger is hand made with just the right ingredients.  Each of our patties are 5 ounces and have to be squished just right to fit our slightly oversized buns.  Susan takes a lot of pride in the products she has developed and she insists that the quality be held to a very high standard.

We had Grace and Max here all day and they are such good little troopers.  They kind of turn into campground rats but we try to keep our eyes on them as much as possible but today they did get grounded for a small infraction.  Oh well it was almost bed time so they crawled up on the top bunk and watched TV!!!

I love that we have a window in the very back of our motorhome and I can see out while laying in bed.  The moon over the lake and through the trees was magical and I stopped to take a quick picture.

The main reason we do what we do in the summer is that we look forward to our winter travels.  This popped up on Facebook and I thought I should have one.  Good Nite!!
