Remember

It's Veterans Day here in the USA, but I don't think there is much going on like we have back home for Remembrance Day.  Although it is a day to honor veterans, I think their big day of Remembrance is on Memorial Day in May.  My US friends should correct me if I'm wrong.  As a Canadian, today has a special meaning to me.

Although my side of the family was not involved in any wars, nor active in any of the armed forces, Susan's Dad was in the military, and a lot of our friends had family in the forces.  I don't think it matters whether you have a direct connection or not, today is a day to ponder what sacrifices have been made to give us the freedom we have today.  Today as I sat silently, I wondered if some of those vets would approve of what we have done with that freedom.  Maybe we have taken it a little too far, and are starting to regress to the point where some of our freedoms are being fettered by some who have not contributed to the sacrifice it took to gain that freedom.  Canada is a strong proud country and we must be diligent to be respectful of and thankful for what we have.  The price of what we have today was huge.  Many families lost multiple loved ones in armed conflicts.  Can you imagine your 16 year old heading overseas to be shot at?  As a parent, it is unthinkable.  All I can say is Thank You to every veteran who made the choice to defend the world from the evils that threaten humanity in the past as well as present.  Your service is much appreciated and today we Remembered.

I would be remiss in not including at least one boat picture today.  This was another work boat going by with a large crane on it.  They have been picking boats off the bottom of some of the harbours around here.  The picture is a bit blurry but you can still see the size of the crane on board and one of the rescued boats on the front barge.

Guess what else we did today.  Your right!!  The forgotten laundry!!  We went into Port Lavaca and did laundry and a wee bit of shopping. We will be good now until the next time we forget to do it.

I got started on a little project to replace Sues bedside table (or the lack of one).  Because it was late in the day I didn't make much progress, but I think I have a good plan in mind for tomorrow.  I will show you more then.

I must show you how close we are to the ocean.  Sometimes the ships come in a bit fast and have a good wake following them.  Combine that with a high tide and the water laps pretty close to us.  It actually goes right under Brian and Gloria's trailer.  They did have a rogue tide here a month or so ago that was 4 feet high.  I figure we would be ok because our floor is about 4 feet off the ground.  There is not supposed to be any more rogue tides until spring now.  Fingers crossed.

While I was taking that picture I noticed where Sue had snuck off to.  She was hiding around the corner out of the breeze.  Time to put the tools away and join her.  We only get so many hours of sunshine in a day.  If you look at the small motor home behind us, that is Ed and Dianne (I hope I have her name right.)  They are from McCreary Manitoba which is just up the road from Rivers about an hour and a half.  They are going to head down to Mexico for most of the winter and have stopped here for a little break.  I envy them.  Safe travels guys.

Here is the view out our window tonight.  Oh dear is that another ship? And to state my side of a bit of a disagreement about Christmas and Remembrance day.  I see nothing wrong with Christmas stuff before or on Remembrance Day as long as you take time today to Remember.  And I did.  And the tree isn't even decorated.

Location tonight:  Boon docking Magnolia Beach Texas

    1. Sue changed the background. It looks nice on here but if you go to the blog on your iphone all you can see is the sand. The text doesn't show up. She will be changing it again this afternoon.

  2. That was a very touching post, thanks Lorne for bringing it home. We had a small celeb at the clubhouse here, nice that they mentioned the Canadian vets because we were present.
Interesting to see the boat on the big boat. You wonder how many are on the floor?

  3. I don't think there were any lost at sea here, just the ones that sank in the harbour.

  4. Our small Kansas town remembered the Veterans with a parade and program; I know other towns in SE KS that had even bigger celebrations so I suppose it is all about where you are in the US. Thanks for a thoughtful post.

  5. I did see your messages to me about planning the next Bloggerfest. I guess we (I?) need to do a post(s) to see what the interest is for another one. I have the signs in my storage unit, and I plan to be in Quartzsite in January with my motorhome. I'll go do my post now. Maybe we can get some of the other, more popular than me, bloggers besides yourself to post about it? I don't mind hosting it. I hope you can get down for it as well. I don't know what is keeping you from heading down, though.

    1. Thanks for your interest. I will certainly participate in all the prep work. Just want someone who is sure they can be there on the day of it in case we don't make it in time. We are meeting friends in Brownsville TX the second week in January and they want to hang around down there for a while so that makes it real tight. Yes we should probably look for a suitable date first and then send out a mass e-mail as well as get our blog friends to advertise it. Lets work together on this one. I am sending you an e-mail
