Super Sonic

Another beautiful day in Texas.  The fishermen started their quest about 6 am and the generators started about the same time.  There was a time when we relied on a generator, but we only ran ours for like 1 1/2 hours a day especially in close proximity to neighbours. Lots of these people run their generators all day long for what reason I don't know.  These are the cheap generators that are loud and annoying.  That's about when Charlie and I go and find a quiet piece of beach to walk on.

The peacefulness only lasts so long and we run into the generators again.  Oh well we are used to it and continue on.

Today we had to head up to Victoria for the parts for the cupboard that I told you about yesterday.  We didn't time our trip very well because by the time we got there we were hungry.  We wanted to try a Sonic Burger because they are like the old drive in restaurants I remember going to when I was young.

The service was quick and the food was good with a reasonable price.  We both ate for about 8 bucks.  And the service was awesome with a great big smile.  When we told the girl it was our first time there, she went over the menu with us and told us some tricks to get the most for the least dollars.  We will definitely go back.

Rather than bore you with pictures of Lowe's as well I will show you a map of where Victoria is in relation to Magnolia Beach and San Antonio.  It is about 45 minutes from the Ponderosa to the Mall in Victoria.  Victoria has a population of 67,000 so there are lots of name brand stores there.

Map showing Victoria and Sutherland Springs Texas
Something I have to mention today, because we have been thinking about it a lot, is the massacre at the church in Sutherland Springs TX a couple weeks ago.  I have waited because it was a very sad time for a lot of people and publicity was not what was needed.  I'm mentioning it now only because I want to make you aware of where we are in relation to Sutherland Springs.  It is only 115 miles from us, as you can see on the map, which really hits home.  It serves as a reminder that although we must do what we have to do on the road to help with our safety, we can never protect against the crazy people that are out there.  Even the sanctity of a church is no match for a sick mind.  We can not let this sort of thing stop us from living, or they win.

Here is the view from our window tonight:

  1. We, like you, only run our noisy genny for as long as necessary and never during the daytime. Of course solar helps us there.
That's a touching mention of the church massacre and a great reminder that we can't live in fear, just with attention at all times. Thanks Lorne for that.

    1. There is a million times more good than bad in this world. Lets keep our eye on the good.

  2. Great Camping spot but it is unfortunate about the Generator Noise.
Too many guns available that get in the hands of those not competent enough to handle them sensibly.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. I should clarify that the generators are mainly from the the locals who are just here to fish and not set up to live off grid. The snowbirds are mainly self sufficient with solar or know when to run gennys.

  3. I've noticed lots of these new rigs have a residential bar fridge in their outdoor kitchens and seem to need to run the generator all day to keep their beverages cold.

  4. Maybe that is the reason. Can't fault them for that...
