Battery Service day

You will be happy to know that I am feeling so much better today.  I know everyone was thinking they would have to put up we me whining on here for a week or so but I will spare you that.

Today was warm and sunny again as it should be around here.  This morning I did my monthly service on the house batteries.  My batteries are set up to equalize once every 30 days and when they do, the controller boosts the charge to them to about 15.3 volts for about 2 hours.  This will result in a certain amount of boiling in the batteries.  Nothing wrong with the boiling except it makes a mess of the top of the batteries and inside the compartment.  I like to wash it all off and check the connections and refill all the batteries with distilled water.  Normally the 4 - 6 volt batteries will take about 16 ozs. of water total to top them up.  Because this happens every month, it is important to top them up before they equalize the second time which could result in the batteries being critically low on acid.

After that chore, I decided to head down the road to Nellies Beauty Salon to see if I could get a haircut.  The locals had told me that she gives you a good old haircut for 10 bucks, so I was game to try it out.  They say there is only 14 days difference between a bad hair cut and a good haircut so what the heck!!!  When I got there she was closed.

I took a look at the book exchange outside and thought maybe this would be a good design for our exchange back at CJ's!!!

I talked to the guy at the Motel/Grocery Store next door and he said Nellie's parents were sick, and them being sick was more important than giving haircuts, so she was looking after them. She may be back tomorrow, or she may not be.  He said if I want a haircut to come back and check every day until she returns.  Maybe we should learn a little from this attitude, and what they hold important in life.  I hope her parents will be ok.

So today's Spanish word is for haircut -- Corte de pelo.  I will say to Nellie, Necesito corte de pelo, and she will hopefully say Ce!!

On my way back to the Ponderosa I saw what used to be a very interesting vehicle.  I could only imagine the hunting and drinking and shooting that went on in the front, in the back and on top of this vehicle.  It would seat 13 people quite comfortably with room for beer and dogs as deemed necessary.  Take note of the attention to safety.  Everything is caged and even the seat out front has seat belts.  And lots of lights for jack lighting at night.

When I got back home, it was clear that Charlie has adopted a new friend, or should I say "weakest link".  He will stare at Lessie until she shares whatever it is that she is eating, and she just can't say no.  She is trying to explain to him why he can't have any, but he's not buying any of it.

Charlie is spoiled and has bad table manners and we know it, but when you get old like us your really don't care.  We call it cute!!  If you don't like it, there is a place over there for you to go sit...LOL.

Lessie washed the "Bird" today and I worked on some electrical problems with the cord between the Ponderosa and the Jeep.  All that salt spray sure does a corrosion thing really fast.  I think I have the problem figured out now.

Another nice evening around our house.  The view from our window today:

  3. I always found it pleasant down in that area. Even found a nice doctor once in Roma when I had a trouble. Zapata up north about 25 miles has several very good restaurants. Enjoy it for me while I am stuck in Rockport TX.

  4. Glad to hear you aren't going to whine! I like the attitude regarding the sick parents and hair cuts. I also enjoyed the picture of the multi person transportation vehicle, if the women don't find you handsome.....comes to mind except Red Green would have had some duct tape there somewhere. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Truly enjoyable.
