Friends for Supper

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

This morning was very different because we received a nice rain overnight.  We have only ever witnessed rain here one other time since we started coming here.  It made for a very cloudy, humid day.  Another afternoon walk downtown for some supplies today.  An interesting thing part way down the beach is the estuary.  It is like a creek that flows into the ocean but the sea keeps pushing sand up blocking the way.  Then as the tides become higher, the wave action will erode the sand again allowing the estuary to run into the ocean.  The other way for it to start running is if there is lots of rain and the estuary fills and breaks the sand dam. (Or if a backhoe comes along!!)   Anyway after last nights rain, the pressure may start the estuary running again.  Its an interesting ecosystem to watch.

The estuary water is 6 ft higher than the ocean.  See the wave erosion starting?

The water in the estuary can become quite gross with lots of trash. Birds fish there.

The waves are eating the sand down to the pebbles underneath and water seeps out.

The fish market guy was busy preparing a Dorado (Mahi Mahi) by the ocean.

There was a guy further down who was washing the street to put tables on outside a restaurant.  He was having a great time singing at the top of his lungs and dancing and twirling.  The soap made the street slippery so he could really do the ballerina moves.  It was so fun to watch him!!

One of the places I walk by lots is the local Mexican bar.  I have never looked in there but apparently it is for the local and us gringo's are not supposed to go there.  I can honor that.  Lots of loud music and voices generally to be heard there.

George and Henny came over for supper this evening and before that we all went to the palapa for a chat.  Normand and Suzanne were there as well.  It was nice to catch up on all that has happened since we saw them last summer.

I will have to post another sunset picture, sorry.  We had an awesome day today.  Good Nite!

  1. I, for one, enjoy these daily-happenings blogs, too. Not everything has to be earth-shaking. Question: do you know if any of your acquaintances in San Carlos have blogs? We hope to make it there in January, and some up-to-date info would be nice.
And keep those sunset pictures coming, too!
