Turkey Day

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Today is the day to cook the turkeys!!  John has had nightmares about the turkeys for the last week or so.  Then last night at about 1 pm there was a crash outside their trailer and he rushed out to see that one set of legs on the table the turkeys in coolers were in, had collapsed and sent the turkeys flying....well not flying cause they were dead, but they rolled on the ground.  Good thing they were in plastic bags so they were saved.  He was so glad to finally have the final day come along.  Here is some pictures of the guys, making the deep fried turkeys!!!

getting the turkey ready for cooking

Watching these guys get ready to cook the turkey was like watching surgeons preparing for surgery.  They went over the process a couple times, then discussed the safety hazards and finally assigned the dipping process!!  John was the chief surgeon for sure.

It was like a bit of a funeral march!!!

and in it goes every so slowly

So this one was set to cook for 17 minutes

Looks ready to come out

and then it was cut up and ready for the table.

Every one had a hand in preparing for the feast today.  Other than the turkey, it was a potluck so there are a lot of yummy things happening.

Sue made buns and then tagged up with Fany to make gravy

Theo was helping with Lillies puzzle. oh wait that wasn't potluck stuff.

Rick and Jill have the salad waiting!

Fany bringing supplies to the table

Ron and Lilly were in charge of pies.

We had 19 people join us for supper.  We all gathered around and Lilly said grace.  Sometimes we forget to take a minute to be thankful for the bounty we have in life and the friends we have from all over North America!!

Last year we had a pot luck and all the dogs were around.  It was shortly after Jen and Ed arrived and the hierarchy amongst all the dogs had not been set.  Between the 6 of them the squabble erupted and it was quite intense for a bit so after that we tended to keep Archie in RRV when we are all sharing food at these functions.  Since then, all of the dogs have found their place and are comfortable with it.  Tonight Susan and I decided to let Archie stay out with everyone.  He acted like a true gentleman, as did all the other dogs and proved to us that in nature, things tend to sort themselves out.  This picture shows Zepher and Saphra and Poncheta busy guarding the food table.  I don't think they saw Archie had their backs and was helping out.

lots of food ready to go.

And then it was time to sit down to supper. We had a really tasty lobster bisque as an appetizer and the main course was turkey and stuffing with mashed potatoes gravy and salads.  There were bread and buns to feed the 5000 and water that had turned into wine. No no wrong party but there were buns and bread and wine.  And then pie and cake for all.  What a feast!!  For the record the people attending were Ed, Jen, Trent, Janelle, Rick, Jill, John, Lauren, Ron, Lilly, Martin, Susan, Lorne, Theo, Jeff, Fany, Max, Bernard, Monique.

Archie gave up on me dropping anything and went to Ron and Lilly to see if they would volunteer any tidbits.  Little Begger!!!

And Ed was being watched closely by his dogs as well on the other side of the table.

We did get to watch sunset as we dined on the beach.  We are so blessed to have this opportunity.

We had a chuckle as the event was breaking up.  Fany, Martin and Max were all packed up and ready to go but they couldn't drag Jeff away from talking.  I said to Fany that he is generally easier to drag away if he is talking in English, but if he shifts into French, lookout, he will talk forever.  He and Bernard were having a good old conversation in French!!! lol.  He finally finished the conversation and we all called it a night.  We had a nice swim in the warm pool before watching some TV and off to bed.  Good Nite!!!

time to go Jeff!!!
