Graduation is a Proud Moment for Us

WHERE ARE WE? Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers Manitoba

One of the bitter sweet things we do at this time of year is attend the graduation of some of our employees.  It is sweet because we get to celebrate a milestone in their lives as they finish high school and move on either to the work world, or secondary education.  We are very proud of their accomplishments.  The bitter is that we know we will lose them soon as they move away and start their training or careers.  We are not able to supply them with year round work, so they have to find other jobs.  Our grads this year will stick with us for the summer, so we are grateful for that.  The ceremony was in our local hockey arena.

Our community has a strong Scottish history and for any of our special events we have a piper on hand.  Jamie piped the grads in to the arena today.  It always gives me chills when I hear them.

Our grads this year are Sierra, Emily and Kennedy who currently work at the Snack Shack, and Jaycee who works at Cj's on the Links, and Rachelle who worked for us a couple years ago.  Emily was chosen by her class as valedictorian this year and she did a good job of the honouring her fellow classmates.  We are very proud of their accomplishments.

Me, Rachelle, Sierra, Kennedy, Emily, and Sue

Not all things in my day are fun like attending grad.  Today I had to clean the porta potty.  We have lots of bugs down here, so it needs a good scrub a couple times in a summer.

Something else we got ready to go today was the poster for our 3rd Annual Hootenany.  It is a fundraising supper here at Cj's and we have music on the deck as well.  This raises funds for Friends of Rivers Lake Committee whom I am a member of.   FRL is also having a Paddle Poker Derby the next day.  This is done in non motorized boats.  I will report on it when we have it. Until then, Good Nite!!

I Hate Early Mornings

WHERE ARE WE? Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers Manitoba

And because yesterday was order day, today is delivery day.  The silly old alarm went off at 6:15 and I fell out and hit the floor dragging my behind.  Have I told you how much I hate Thursdays and being up at this ungodly hour.  I think I even woke the birds up today!!!  Sometimes, to make room for the pails of ice cream in the freezer, I clean out some of the almost empty pails and place it in small plastic containers.  This frees up room for another pail in the freezer.  Today I cleaned out 4 pails so that will help when I receive 17 pails today.

And then the truck came down the hill and pulled up to the door.

We didn't have a big order today, other than the ice cream so it didn't take me long to put it all away and crawl back in bed.  I was snoring again before 8 am!!!

I left the empty boxes for the girls to deal with when they arrive for work this afternoon.  This is the employee entrance, so they will know that they need to be dealt with right away, because they can't get past them!!!  Pretty sneaky, huh??  I'm kinda a nasty boss.

I mentioned a while ago that one of our summer jobs is working with Manitoba Housing here in town.  Today I went to an empty lot that we have to mow and trimmed a tree because it was hard to mow around.  This will make it much easier to deal with.

That was all I did today.  I went home and spun the work dial and this is where it landed, so I had no other choice.  Good Nite!!!

Some Time With our Friends

WHERE ARE WE? Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers Manitoba

Each week we have certain tasks that have to be accomplished and today is one of those days.  Today we have to do what is called the Pratts order.  Pratts are the wholesale company that we buy most of our supplies from and we have to give them our order for the week today.  One of the few things I am in charge of is the ice cream order.  We have gone through lots of ice cream this week and are ordering 17 - 11.5 liter pails to replace what we have sold.  As the weather heats up, ice cream sales increase.  Here is the little sheet we keep by the freezer to know what we need for flavours.

Our friends Jim and Marilyn are here for a couple days this week again so we joined them a couple times to chat around the fire.  We met them the first year we had Cj's here in the park and this is the 9th season we have had their friendship.

Your snicker for tonight!!!  Good Nite!!

Another Dreary Day!

WHERE ARE WE? Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers Manitoba

Another rainy day so we went to Brandon to do some things.  Nothing exciting but necessary.  I had to grab a snack half way through.  Sometimes a ham and cheese sandwich is what a body needs.  This one was good.

And it was still raining when we got home.  We are getting kinda sick of the rain.  Oh well, we will live.   Good Nite!!

Exploring a Food Vendor Opportunity

WHERE ARE WE? Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers Manitoba

Monday was another rainy dreary day here.  While our friends in Ontario are roasting in tropical heat, we are in a rainforest situation. It is not cold but it certainly is not hot.  My job for the day was to go to town and pick up some supplies for the shack.  Business is still slow this time of year, but we have been lucky enough to have a steady flow of customers.  We get quite a bit of take outs as well.

Then Sheri called and asked me to join her checking out a possible opportunity for her to run a food booth at the local fair in Hamiota.  The shack and the equipment need some TLC but the local Lions Club will have it all cleaned for her if she does it.  She will do the numbers and decide.  It is a one day, 4 hour push and its over but you sell lots of burgers and hot dogs.

Nice little building that sits empty most of the time.

a couple stoves and a fridge

2 grills & 2 fryers

I almost got taken in with this ad that I found on Facebook.  It would be a handy gadget!!.  Good Nite!!!
