The girls visit Fremont Street

Today was a nice morning so we spent some time outside.  We are perched on top of a hill on a plateau, so we can see all around us.  We feel like Kings and Queens of the castle.  Nothing happens around here without us knowing it.

Walking the Strip

I told you yesterday that Kyra wanted to move before it got windy and she was so right.  Today was a nasty day with cool temperatures and windy so we are glad we listened to her.  We decided to head into Henderson to Costco to get some supplies and to kill some time.  Our first view of the Las Vegas strip from the hill out by Henderson was nice and always makes us think of wandering the Strip.

Las Vegas here we come.

Moving Day today.  We are heading to Lake Mead because Kaitlyn will be flying home from Las Vegas on Thursday and she would like to see the bright lights of Vegas.  She has never been here before.  Kyra looked at the weather and said there was wind coming tomorrow so we opted to move today to avoid traveling in it.  We headed out about 11 am with Kyra taking 40 west and we took 40 east up to Kingman and then on to Lake Mead.  Kyra will meet us there and pick out a nice spot.

London Bridge is NOT falling down

Lake Havasu is a really pretty spot to be in.  We are a bit north in a dry camping area quite close to the highway but far enough away that we don't hear any traffic.

Solar Magic

Today we woke up to a beautiful morning.  We ran the furnace all night to keep us about 63F but as soon as the sun shone in the windows it warmed right up.  We sat outside for a while awaiting Brian Boone who is coming to look at our solar problems.

Back to the desert

This morning we woke up without having decided where to head next.  P&H are in Vegas, Kyra is in Lake Havasu, Rowdy & Missy are in Tucson, so where do we go.  We also wanted to go to Lancaster CA some day to visit the Rexhall service center to check out a decal package for the Ponderosa.  Lancaster is about 70 miles north of San Bernadino CA so would be a fair little bit out of our way.

Disneyland

Today is Disneyland Day.   Time to visit the Magical Kingdom.  Once again Kaitlyn had us up at the crack of dawn and had us shining our dancing shoes before 8 am.  We are parked right beside the Disney shuttle pickup and it is only a 5 minute ride to the park from here so off we went about 8:30.

Tuesday, 21 February 2017

It happens in 3's they say.

Because we wore ourselves out at Universal yesterday today was a down day for us.  I was just going to putter around today and do some odds and ends around the Ponderosa.

Universal Studios

Today we headed out to Universal Studios with Kaitlyn and Grace.  Now if it was just Susan and I we would have slept in till 8:30 or so and left at 9:30, but not with our Kaitlyn around.  She had us up at 6:30 and washed and shaved and in the car by 7:50 am for the 45 minute drive to Universal.

Happy Hour at 9 am

Today is moving day for us so when we talked to Bill and Patsy last evening, we decided we would all get together for a morning Happy Hour.  Now I know that my cup had straight coffee in it, but I can't vouch for anyone else.  Harold and Pat and Deb and Tom who write the blog Celebrating the Dance joined us as well.  We had a great visit and soon realized that time was slipping away and we needed to pack up and move on.

A Spy in the Sky

It was a bit of a rainy morning but Harold and I set out on a 3 mile walk down by the old dry lake bed and back.  We marveled at all of the things that are buried in the desert from gas lines to telephone lines.  One thing we did notice here was the lack of garbage even though there are lots of people using the desert to dry camp.

Too Close Neighbours

So while reading some blogs Thursday night I ran across a blog of a friend of ours who writes Chillin with Patsy. I knew they were out around Borrego somewhere but didn't really look to see where they might be.

Now lets go back to when we arrived here earlier that evening we were in a hurry to get set up and comfortable before dark.  As I was outside doing things I mentioned to Sue that we had probably parked a little close to our neighbour, so maybe we should look at moving tomorrow.  She said we will deal with it in the morning.

Taking the road less travelled

Moving day is always a fun day for us.  It is a usually an exciting day of exploration.  We like to take some back roads and see some country and there is so much country to see that is not on an Interstate.  We use Interstates when we want to move quickly, but only if on a schedule of some sort.  And today is no exception, except for the fact that there are mixed reviews on the route we will be taking.

Beach Day

Today was beach day.  We had no plans for the day other than to hang out on the beach.  We started the day with coffee on the sand in front of the MH.

The Zoo

We were welcomed to the world of Grandparents this morning.  Grace was up at 6 ish this morning and Kaitlyn and Sue got up soon after to supervise.  I didn't have the energy to roll out at that time of day so stayed in bed until about 7 am.  Now remember we normally don't  rise until about 8:30 so this is a real shock to our systems.  But it is nice to wake up to a little one running around and being quite cute.  Today was Zoo day so we had to be ready to head out by 8:30 am.  We arrived at the zoo at just after 9 am.

Surfing story

I will be posting our location at the end of our post from now on, so that everyone must read our blog to find out where we are.  Kind of like trickery I guess, but I will do anything to increase readership.  Ha Ha.

Today was the big day that Kaitlyn and Grace arrived from Manitoba.  They left Winnipeg for Calgary way before we were even thinking of waking up and then hopped another West Jet flight to San Diego about the time we were having coffee on the beach.

San Diego finally!!!

Where are we tonight?  Silver Strand State Beach - San Diego California

Woke up in the parking lot of the Viejas Casino just east of San Diego.  It was a cool night and we were glad to see the sun shining bright.  We were in no hurry to leave this morning so Harold and I washed all the windows in our units and I fixed my light cord to the Jeep.  By the time we were ready to roll the parking lot was kinda empty.

Carrot Festival Parade

I was told that it is not always clear where we are at any time so I am going to start to post our location on each blog.  Let me know what you think.

Where are we tonight?  Viejas Casino just east of Alpine CA

Moving day today.  Time to head farther west on our trip to San Diego.  Before we headed out we went in the Holtville to the Carrot Festival Parade.  This is a big event in town and there were probably a couple thousand people on the streets for the parade.  I took some pictures to share with you.

RV Chat room is the place to be.

I want to do a little promotion for a chat site that I visit as often as possible.  It used to be the RV Dreamers chat site which was run and funded by Howard and Linda Payne.  These are the people that go around doing seminars on everything RV.  For years they have hosted a chat site on their page and a group of us have been going there each evening for a long time.  It was a place to talk about RVing and get some support from others on different issues.  It is a lot like reading a blog but way more personal. Over the years almost all of us have met in person somewhere in North America and it has been a platform for making friends from all over the continent.  For instance, I met Rowdy and Missy on chat a few years ago and we went through the "should we go full time" dilemma. We both retired about the same time and both went through the process of selling our houses.  We have become quite good friends, but we had never met them until this year.  If you have read our blog you know we spent the best part of a month living in the desert with them as they tried out dry camping.  We spent some time with Dee and Jim this winter, who we met on chat as well as Anna, Lessie and Ed and many more.  Any way about a week ago Howard decided our group was not worth supporting anymore and cancelled the chat room without even telling anyone.  (Most chatters have at some point donated to it, or attended his seminars or bought product from his Amazon site).  Thank you very much Mr. Payne for kicking us to the curb.  Anyway one of our chatters took it upon herself to set up our very own chat room and fund it herself so that our friendships would carry on through chat.  We are now hoping to attract more chatters to the site, so I am inviting anyone who would like to investigate it, to go to her blog "Tumbleweed" and click on the "Chat" button on the right side.  Someone is usually there starting about 8:30 EST.  You need to make up a name for yourself, either your own name or a fictitious one, and add your location to the end of it.  For instance mine is "Boo-Holtville CA.  If you don't see me there just mention that Boo sent you and they will give you the big welcome. There is no sign up or any obligation to stick around, but try it out once to see what you think.  I may even be there.

A Drive in the Country

We headed back into Holtville this morning to continue with haircuts.  All of us ended up in the chair, even the girls.  Dianne was our hairdresser and she did a wonderful job on all of us.

What a smile!!

Moving day is always viewed as a double edged sword.  On one hand we are excited about moving on to new areas and seeing new things, but on the other hand we don't like leaving good friends behind.  This was the case today as Kyra and Joan will be staying on Ogilby Road and P&H will be moving on down the road to Holtville Hot Springs LTVA with us.

Drone Flight

Harold and I played with the drone a little bit today.  I changed from using my Iphone for the screen to the Ipad which made a big difference in navigating using the screen rather than just by visual.  Susan got the exposure right and now I can see what I am doing.

Mexico trip

We decided that today was a great day to head to Mexico for the day.  It was a little cooler so would be nice for walking around down there.   We took the dogs to spend the afternoon with some new found friends of ours in Yuma.  They have a park model in a park on the west side of Yuma.  They are from Saskatoon Saskatchewan and love dogs so asked if they could look after Charlie and Lexi for the day.  Thanks Sandra and Monty.

Blogger Fest 2017 Review

Blogger Fest 2017 was held on Saturday January 28th 2017 at the Ramada “Pavilion” in South La Posa LTVA south of Quartzsite Arizona.  The day was a little on the cool side but was much warmer than the weather we had been experiencing.  Sue and I were pleased to host the event along with some help from some fellow bloggers.

We turned off the Super Bowl at half time

Well today is Super Bowl Sunday and I can tell you right now that it means nothing to me.  I don't have one sports minded bone in my body and with a name like GaGa why would I want to watch the half time show.  So to relieve my boredom, I took the drone up for a little sight seeing.  I am still getting used to flying it and tend to forget to turn on the camera lots.  I got a shot of our circle of four in the desert.

Bra Shopping

Today was Bra shopping day.  So why did all you guys come to check this out?  Did you really think I was going to post a bunch of pictures or do a commentary on the fine art of choosing a bra? Shame on you guys. Ha Ha.   But now that you are here, I'm going to tell you what Harold and I did while the girls went bra shopping.  Before everyone left we all discussed the days plan around the fire pit.

Candle lit supper with my sweetheart

Friday Harold had an appointment for some service work on his truck at the Chevy dealer in Yuma.  He made the appointment for 7 am so the rest of us said he was on his own for that.  However we did agree to meet them around 10 for breakfast at Cracker Barrel.  We are only about 15 miles from it so we will go there a few times while we are here.

A Gnarly old Tree in the Desert

Internet has been tough in the last while so the blog has suffered by not being published on time.  I hope we can keep up to it from now on and keep you informed as we travel along.  I will also have a Blogger Fest Report with pictures ready to publish soon.  I appreciate your patience.

Today was moving day.  We are going to go and join our friends Kyra and Joan on Ogilby Road.  They have a nice little spot there and we have decided to join them for a few days on our trek to San Diago.

We love Shopping

Today we decided to head down to Yuma to explore the route that will take us to Ogilby Road on Thursday and then do some grocery shopping.  It was a pretty drive down through very lush agricultural land.  Lots of activity in the fields and for those of you that are not Trump fans, perhaps you should come and witness all of the field help from our friends in Mexico, who by the way come across the border every day.  They are duly processed workers and I would suspect they encounter no difficulty crossing the border.
