It Was and Eating Day Today

Abuela was taking a week off from doing Pisole and Birria so we had to find a new spot for Sunday breakfast.  There is a taco place in La Colonia, which is only about a mile from our place, so we headed there.  They do birria so we ordered a few.  The ones we saw on the grill were cooked to a golden brown and that's what we thought we would get but we only got normal taco's.  So we asked what they were and they said tacos dorado de birria.  So we had to order some more!! Burp!!

After lunch Fany and Max and I went for a walk downtown while the rest of the world had a siesta.  It was a slow leisurely walk just for something to do rather than for exercise.  We stopped often and bought ourselves treats along the way.  Chocolate bars and Agua fresca's were necessary nourishment for the walk.  We saw a cat and a chicken walking along the cement wall together.  All of the animals down here seem to get along well.

Max and I had to explore this art piece that has kind of self destructed. It was made with plastic bottle caps but the plastic has since seen better days.

Lauren went on the local Mexican marketplace and saw a popcorn maker that was calling to her so they went and bought it.  They wanted to try it out so she plugged it in and filled it up.  Max was jumping up and down watching it as it started to pop.  It made great popcorn and they shared with all of us.  I'm sure they will have it in action lots.

So of course by now the birria had worn off so we BBQ'd up some red snapper.  Jeff and Fany were having the same so we just got together and had supper together.  John and Lauren joined us for some conversation.  

We decided that even though we had been little piggies today, we would walk down to Kenia's for a frappe.  Oscar was there as well and showed us the new car he got for Christmas.  He collects them.

Sunset tonight saw Theo as a silhouette against the beautiful colour.  Good Nite!!

Lots of Mexicans Vacationing on the Beach.

Had to go and fill the Jeep up with gas today so I will give you a little insight into the price of gas in Mexico.  I filled up at 26.99 peso's per liter.  So that equates to 1.86 Cnd per liter.  So the Jeep took 58 liters for a total of $1565.42 peso's which I still cringe at when I see the amount.  It equates to $108.07 Cnd which still makes me cringe.  I wonder where all the price increases will end!!!

  We found out today that we have a pet iguana here.  It is in one of the trees in the back of the property and is not scared to climb a tall palm tree.  He is over 3 feet long and has a nice beard hanging down.  

We have a lot of Mexicans who come to La Penita to the ocean to holiday during Christmas.  This is as busy as we have seen it in the 5 years we have been coming here.  They set up their umbrella's and tables and eat and drink and play lots of music.  There can be 3 different families withing 100 feet of each other, and all 3 will be playing their own music.  They have to keep cranking it up to drown out the other one it seems.

Today there was a little added action when a couple of young guys got in trouble in the waves.  They started yelling for help although they were still able to keep afloat.  Thankfully because of the crowd on the beach, boats are close by giving rides etc, so one came quick and threw them a couple of life jackets.  The boys put them on and then hung on to the side of the boat and he brought them to shore.  

Glad things ended without any tragedy occurring.

Everyone went back to partying and the ice cream man kept playing his tune and selling ice cream.  

Sorry, but there was another sunset tonight.  The sun is slowly making its way back north again.  It will soon be in the hollow of the mountains.

It seems like once the sun sets it is supper and shortly after that it is bed time.  It is hard to believe that we have been here 2 months already.  

Almost an Emergency

So a little story to start the post.  Our friend Jeff was busy in the kitchen yesterday preparing his a meal.  In the process he decided to use a sharp knife.  I'm not sure if he was ever properly trained in the use of something sharp, but he ignored all of the safety rules and poof, he cut the tip of his little finger quite deeply.  He immediately sought emergency medical aid from anyone who would listen to his whining, and they got it all bandaged up.  Anyway after having some pain and experiencing a fitful sleep Fany dragged him to the doctor this morning.   The poor guy was terrified and will be literally scarred for life.  I almost shed a wee tear when I saw him sitting there waiting for the surgery procedure!!

After an hour wait he finally got to see the doctor and he sucked it up like a big boy and took the stiches like a man!!  Good job Jeff for being so brave in the face of adversity!!  We hope the healing takes place promptly and that the scar will not affect you in any serious way.

Later in the day after consulting with lots of the RV park residents, he came up with a plan to handle the pain.  I think he will be fine!!  ( He is really a retired military tough guy so this was a bit of a far fetched story!!)

After getting back from the doctors, Fany and I went for a walk on the beach to find some sea glass.  She did the searching and I did the exploring.

We went down by the old cemetery that is being eroded by the ocean.  It is kind of eerie to see the concrete boxes, some of them open and others are still sealed.  There were no bones to be found though. 

Someone had painted a rock along the beach just recently.  Very nice.

Today I got a hankering for liver and onions again so off to El Pollito I went to have lunch.  They have the best liver and it is very reasonably priced.   Kenia and Katherine met me there as well and we had a fun chat for an hour of so. They didn't eat liver of course, but rather had a fajita.

That pretty much wrapped up our day.  We spent the evening chatting with the neighbours and then went in and watched a movie.  It was a great day all in all.  Good Nite!!

Market Day

Market day today so I headed down town with Jeff and Fany and Theo.  This is Theo's first time in Mexico so he has a lot to see.  We walked around for a while checking things out.  It was very quiet there today.  I guess everyone is getting over Christmas.  

We were a bit hungry so we stopped at the taco vendor and had one Birria taco each.  It was sooo tasty that I'm sure I drooled.  Wow, I will be back for another one next week!!

As usual I had to take a peek in the church.  They had a lovely Christmas nativity scene up at the front.  They always put a lot of effort into decorating for every occasion.

On the way home we stopped by the water place to get our water bottles filled.  Water is very important in this part of the country.  We made an arrangement to have them deliver water to our park from now on.  That will be handy.  

So today Sue got to do something that was an amazement to Max.  He came to our place and Sue said that she had a secret fort in the motorhome.  His eyes got big and he started looking around for this fort.  Sue walked over and pressed the button to lower our front bunk bed.  Max's eyes got big as Sue put the ladder in place and up he went.  He spent the afternoon playing and watching TV up there.  Maybe he will come for a sleep over sometime!!!

Today was another good one and we finished it off playing some Uno.  No I didn't win!! Silly game!!

Ron and Lilly and John and Lauren had their own little rivalry going on as well.  They played until well past La Penita Midnight 9:30.   That was my day.  Good Nite!!

Christmas in Mexico

Merry Christmas to you!!

Christmas was a beautiful warm sunny day here in Mexico.  The first thing on the agenda was to talk to the grandkids.  We had a nice chat with everyone

After we got all that done, a young lad showed up looking to trim some palm trees for us to make some cash.  300 peso's for 2 trees was a heck of a deal so away he went.

After he was done with the cutting he came down and Ron and Lilly had bacon and eggs waiting for him.  He was sure pleased with that.  What a nice thing to do, especially on Christmas Day.

Out front on the beach filled up with people today.  Lots of swimming and music.  We very seldom see this many people on the beach in front of our place.

Kenia came for a visit in the afternoon with the whole family.  We had a nice little visit.

We had a great potluck supper tonight.  We had salads, potatoes, potato salad, chili's, buns and chicken and a nice dessert.
