Dogs and then to the Beach

The kids wanted to go up to the local animal rescue to walk the dogs that are housed there so I took them up in the Jeep.  George and Lorette do a great job giving homeless dogs, cats, and horses, a second chance.  They had about 40 dogs up there right now.  The kids had a good time and gave the dogs some much needed one on one time.

The kids bought gramma a nice bouquet of flowers just cause.  Nice of them.

A little story about the neatest panhandler in town.  He does a juggling act at the traffic lights on the highway.  This guy lives in this clown uniform and works hard for his tips.  He has a squeaky voice when he is in character, but once you get to know him, he sometimes talks in a normal low male voice.  I don't mind giving him some cash because he is truly entertaining and will stop and take a picture with you.  Sheri was walking one day and grabbed this photo.

So after lunch we headed over to Los Ayala to hang out on the beach.  The main beach was quite busy but we kept going up a big hill and over to a nice little beach.  The kids spent a couple hours fighting the waves and doing beach things. I think they are getting a little played out from all the time in the ocean.

That was a fun afternoon and we walked a long way on the beach today.  Sue and I headed home while the kids went out for sushie.

Repairs for the Jeep

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

The kids have found the orange juice lady at the end of the street.  Each morning they walk down there and get all sorts of morning drink delights.  

Then they had to do laundry, so they borrowed the wagon.  Doesn't look like laundry in there at all!!!

Later in the morning when I walked by the Jeep, I noticed that there was oil running down the inside of the drivers rear tire. Oh oh, that looks like a wheel seal.  Sure hope it is not a bearing as well!!  So the kids and I headed down the street to the mechanico place with the intention of letting them look and then set up an appointment to fix it after they get the part.  The mechanic comes out and proceeds to tear everything apart and soon a guy arrives on a motorcycle with a little package and a new seal is installed.  All in about 2 hours.  We just sat in the Jeep and checked facebook!!   They sure have a different way of doing things here.  I kinda like it.  I got the same thing done at home last fall and it took about 3 days in the shop to do it.  The total bill here was 1200 pesos or about $90.00 Cnd.  

The afternoon involved lots of ocean time for the kids.  Its always fun to watch them in the waves.

Although Semana Santa is sneaking up on us, we have not noticed a big increase in people on the beach here.  I'm sure if you went to Guayabito's you would see lots though.

After supper we all headed down to the plaza to check out the action.   It is getting quite busy in the evenings down town now.  The kids like to play in the plaza and spray foam is a fun thing to buy.  Donovan got hit with it pretty bad.

I did take a minute to catch a sunset today.  I have been missing them lately.  Notice that it is setting pretty close to the island now.  It will set behind the island real soon and then it will be time to head north.  Good Nite!!

Vacation is Over, Time to Go Home

Our little exploration trip winds down today.  We headed for home about noon and stopped at a neat little restaurant a few miles down the road.  We had an awesome lunch.  I had Birria and it was really good.

The trip back to La Penita was un eventful and we arrived around 4 pm.

We had a dinner date with Louis, Candice, and Journey at Sergio's for ribs.  We had and nice chat and got to catch up a bit on what is happening in their lives.  Sheri and the kids were there as well at the next table.  Then George and Henny showed up with Lisa, Paul, to celebrate Jacks Birthday.  Nice to see Jack and Carol again.  After supper we visited the churro lady and the Cafecito, and then it was home to bed.  Good Nite!!

Exploring San Sabastian de ouste

WHERE ARE WE? San Sebastian, Jalisco Mexico

Today was a little exploring day.  Ken and I headed to the local restaurant for breakfast.  All traditional food and was it ever yummy!!

Then we headed down the narrow streets to an even narrower dirt and cobblestone trail up to an abandoned mine.  There were only certain places where anyone could pass but we made out fine.

The old mine was amazing and we never did make it to the end.   The shaft went straight into the side of the mountain without any variation in elevation.  

We went around a few bends and then turned our lights off.  The darkness was black enough that you thought you could feel it.  There was a really stale smell in the air and there was no air movement.  I wondered if there was a vent shaft somewhere, but with the air being that still, I doubt there was.  

We headed back to town to pick up the girls to take a trip up the the look out at la Bufa.  It is 8.5 kms of windy narrow road up the mountain which took over and hour to drive, but when you get there, you can look for miles.  On a clear day you can supposedly see the ocean and PV from here.  Today was a bit hazy but we could certainly look down on San Sabastian.

Back down we went and checked out the old cemetery.  The old one had graves from the 1700's while the newer one was late 1800's.  Neat history to see.

We had supper at a little sidewalk cafe in the plaza where there was a birthday party for a 5 years old boy.  They pull out all the stops to celebrate birthdays.  There were tortilla's and ceviche and lots of cervesa and of course a 10 piece um pa pa band with bouncy castles on the side.  It was a bit loud, but hey, we are in Mexico and why would you spare expense on an important occasion like this!!!

A little walk down the hill and we were home for the night.  It was a great day of exploring.

A little observation to pass on.  Here in San Sabastian and area we noticed how clean it is.  There is very little garbage laying around and they have lots of recycling.  Our attention was drawn to the fact that the coke bottles are all glass.  Even the ones that look like the plastic ones are glass. Could this be helping with the cleanliness because there is a deposit on them? Also there are very few styrofoam plates that I could see.  I guess we will never know.   Good Nite!!
