On the Road Again

Just like the Willie Nelson song says, today we finally got back on the Road Again!!  Not early but never the less on the road.  Here is our route today.  We will meet P & H in Bloomenort at their daughters house and spend the night there before continuing on.

Last day of Work finally.

You may notice 2 post with the same date.  That is because I am catching up so that I am posting about the current day.  I don't care what happened yesterday, I am interested in what happened today, so I am going to try to stay current.  It may or may not work.

Tuesday was my last day of work at the crusher.  I had to run the loader feeding the crusher today.  Not my favourite job but it had to be done.  Its a fairly large loader and boy is it rough to operate.  It bounces and bangs you like crazy.  Definitely a young mans job.

Our Jello plan for the Winter.

Yesterday was one of those days.   I got up in the morning, drank my coffee and headed off to work.  Worked until 5 pm and came home.  Had supper and watched TV.  Then went to bed.  How's that for a boring day.  We are still planning on leaving on Wednesday morning if nothing else changes.

Here is our tentative route for the next month or so.  We hope the weather co-operates because we would like to spend some time at Land between the Lakes which is not far from Nashville.  Friends of ours are there already and report that it is absolutely beautiful there.  Looking forward to that.

Abby's Birthday

Yesterday we headed about an hour and a half southwest to visit with our son and daughter in law Derek and Nicole and their kids, who happen to be our grand kids.  Their oldest Abby had her 8th birthday yesterday so we had a little party for her today.  We took our other grand daughter Grace with us to help us celebrate.  When we got there, we found out that there was a craft sale at the rink, so we headed down there.  On the way back our son Derek decided to ride Abby's bike. What a card.  They say he comes by it honestly.  I think they are referring to me.

Good News and Bad News

So what do you want to hear first?  The good news or the bad news.  How many times have you heard that?  Well I'm going to give you the bad news first!!  Remember our friends Pat and Harold tat travelled with us last year and who got the new to them Alfa Motorhome last spring?

The Mighty Mouse Hunter.

Well summer came to an end rather abruptly.  Our last day for CJ's was Sept 9th.  Up to this date we had been wearing our shorts because it was quite warm out.  Well on the 10th the chill started to move in and the wind blew chilly.  We moved the Ponderosa over to the Shack because the park turns off the power to our seasonal site and we have our own power at the shack.

Wedding and Boat Rentals

Another one of our chances to get away from CJ's was to attend the wedding of our niece and now nephew Jen and Lorne to witness their wedding and have some fun with the family.  It was in Winnipeg so we packed up Donovan and Dani, who were staying with us and off we went.  The wedding was beautiful and grand daughter Gracie thought that Jen was a princess.

Some Work and Some Play

Over the course of the summer, in addition to my ice cream duties, I worked at the gravel crusher off and on.  I filled in if anyone had to be away or was sick.  I do enjoy working on the crusher, but my days of hard work are over.  If I get over zealous and lift or shovel, I pay for it for a couple days after with a sore back or just played out.  I am slowly learning my limits.  My job normally entails operating the crusher from a tower on top of a trailer.  It has big windows all around so I can see everything that is happening.  Kind of like an air traffic controller except with rocks. lol

Check ups and Toe Painting

Every June I have to go to the heart clinic in Winnipeg to have my Implanted Cardiac Defibulator checked.  It takes us all day to get there and back, with a generous helping of shopping in the middle, for about a 10 minute appointment.  It is the neatest thing to experience because they check my ICD with a computer.  No wires or anything.  They say ok now I'm going to speed your heart up, and sure enough you feel it speed up and you get a quick rush.  Then they slow it down really low and you relax again.  I keep reminding the tech, not to press the delete button by mistake.  LOL  The normal life of the battery in this ICD is about 8 years so I will have to have surgery to replace it in a couple more years.

A Celebrity Comes to Town

Its been a long cold winter for some of our friends.  It looks like they have been here for a while waiting on us.  I'm not sure if our food and ice cream will save them.  Actually these campers are regulars and they draw a lot of attention with their display out front.

We are Back!!!!

Well it has been a long time since the publishing of our last blog.  It has been an extremely busy summer with the ice cream business almost doubling in sales this year and me doing some outside work as well.  Lets give you a little recap of our summer over the next few days before we fire up the engine on the Ponderosa and head south for the winter.
