Homeward Bound

WHERE ARE WE?           Walmart in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan

NEXT DESTINATION?    Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers Manitoba tomorrow

Well our time with our Western kids has come to an end.  What a great time we had here.  It is always nice to spend some time with family after being away for so long.  It is also nice to head to where our roots are, and that is what we are going to do today and tomorrow.  It is 1200 kilometers from Bentley to Rivers so we will not be doing it all in one day.  We do try to get 800 kilometers under our belts the first day.  At the end of the day we had travelled 867 kms.

First plan of the morning was breakfast with Rick and Leanne.  They are Gords mom and dad.  Some of their family joined us as well but by the time I thought to take a picture they had left.  Sorry guys.  Thanks for the awesome breakfast.

After breakfast Rick came out to guide me out of our precarious parking spot.

I had to be careful not to sideswipe the power pole or run over the concrete barriers.

Made it without a scratch, however when I went to get out of the motorhome, the electric step motor broke and I had to wire up the steps for the trip home.  It makes for a long step down when we stop.

The highway across the prairies is a long, not so scenic drive at this time of year.  There are miles and miles of straight flat road.  Sue always says that you can watch your dog run away for 3 days!!  Back a lot of years ago we used to have a Motorhome manufacturing plant in Rivers and the story was told of a guy who came for his new motorhome and set off across Saskatchewan with it.  He mistook the cruise control for auto pilot and set it at 60mph on this straight road, and got up and went back and
made himself a sandwich and coffee and came back to the front,  and the motorhome was still on the road going 60 mph.  Now they swore this was true, and who am I to argue.  I did not try this today however, only because there was a cross wind!!!

Every once in a while they throw in a curve just to make sure you are still awake.

And there are lots of oil wells everywhere!!  Makes you wonder why the price of diesel fuel is so high??

After a few hours we crossed into Saskatchewan.

The scenery doesn't change a lot but we were waiting to see Tonto and the boys chasing these Buffalo!   Oh give me a home where the Buffalo roam.  And we did see deer and antelope today but didn't get a picture.

After a long day of travel like we had, not much thought goes into where we will park for the night.  Wally Docking it is.  Here is the view out our window:

  2. To answer Phyllis' query above. It is about 540 US miles I believe.
That is the thing about traveling the prairies - long and flat. That story is crazy about the fellow on 'auto-pilot'/cruise control!! haha too funny.

  3. Oh no, that's a long step down. If you start to go down when you step, out just try to roll maybe you'll go down easy. I love the saying that you can watch you dog run away for 3 days.
