A Birthday Cake Today

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

I have been accused of eating out all the time while Sue is away.  That is false.  I have had my fair share of outings with friends, but for the most part, I am fending for myself.  I am not a great cook and my imagination for cooking is dismal to say the least.  I was born and raised on the olden days farm where meat and potatoes were the mainstay of our eating.  So most mornings I do cereal and every once in a while I cook up some eggs.  That's what I did this morning and were they ever good.

While we are in Mexico we are plugged in to shore power, however I do not have an inverter converter to charge my batteries.  I only have a charger and I normally unplug it when the batteries are full.  Why do I do that?  I just do....  Our batteries will last about a month running just the lights and bare minimum DC stuff.  And solar you ask?  Yes we have solar, however our controller is giving lots of troubles.  It will only turn on for about and hour and then turns off.  I have to reboot it to get it to turn on again.  A problem to fix another day.  So today I charged the batteries and life is good again!!!

John and Kirley's nephew Wyatt had a birthday today so they shared the birthday cake at the palapa.  We even sang Happy Birthday to him..  He is just a youngster!!!

And the sun is sooo close to rolling into the ocean but it is not quite there.  Good Nite!!!

A Fun Tour Today

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

We had a few things to do around here today.  Hubert wanted to get his motorhome all shone up.  He got out the ladder and even did the top parts.  Good job Hubert!!!

Mid morning I went upstairs to change out a valve in one of the toilets.  I have had this on my radar for a couple days but just before I got there the top of the valve blew off and there was water all over the floor when I got there.  Perfect timing I would say.  I changed everything out and it is good to go now!

all fixed

I was sitting around with Ken and Rhonda and Rhonda mentioned that we have not been doing much and they were getting a little bored.  Well, well, the young lady Dr at the clinic the other day mentioned a lovely spot they own overlooking the beach town of Chacala.  I had not even thought about it till now so I said lets go!!  I didn't tell them where we were going.

I got on the wrong road to start with and we ended up going up a narrow rough road but it did provide some nice scenery.

We got turned around and went into a private property, paid our 50 pesos each and wound up a long hill right to the top.  When we arrived it was breath taking.  We were on the top of the world overlooking Chacala!!!  They have a little place where you can buy a coffee and just sit and look out over the ocean and the town.  We spent about an hour there before returning home.

long way down!!
cute coconut carvings for sale

Even a coconut carved napkin holder

Some coffee and pastries for sale

A big hotel back in the mountains.

An ancient volcano bottom.  Very wet and green

Some coconut carvings up in a tree

view of Chacala

Beautiful picnic tables on the overlook

Not a lot of people on the beach today

So I have been waiting patiently to watch the new Season 50 of Survivor.  I even bought Paramount+ for a couple months so I can watch it.

Well I got all comfy and watched for a couple hours.  It was funny how many of the players I recognized and I had heard that there would be a lot of returning players.  Richard Hatch, Kelly W. Gervas, Gretchen were some of them.  And it seemed that Jeff was really quiet and was not his energetic self.  He was even forgetting some of his lines, like "the tribe has spoken"!!  So I watched a bit more and about 2 hours later I realized I was on episode 5!!!  Wait a minute, there has only been a 3 hour special so far!!! What the heck??  Hey, I remember Richard Hatch running naked before!! And isn't he dead?  I checked closer and I am watching Season 1!!!  I checked and there will be a 1 week delay before Season 50 is put on Paramount+.   Oh well, I will keep watching Season 1.  I don't even remember who wins but I think it is Richard.

The sun is getting really close to setting into the ocean.  Soon it will be "time for us to go"  lol  Good Nite!!!

Fire Dance at Supper

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Market day again in La Penita.  I always say I am not going to the market and today was no different. But I remembered that I needed a loaf of bread from the bread man so off I went on my bike.  It is a little difficult to navigate the market with my bike and I really can't leave it anywhere to look around, so I just went to the bread man and then left again.

I saw this advertisement for a cream pie back in Canada and it made me thankful that we are in Mexico where baked goods are a bit cheaper.  My loaf of bread was still quite expensive though. 80 pesos ($6.33 Cnd).

I noticed while I was downtown that my bike was getting quite dirty, so I took a little time this afternoon and gave it a wash.   Nice and shiny now!!

Me and my shadow took Archie for a walk at sunset tonight.  Forgot the sunset picture.

We had reservations at Las Koritas (Sergios) for Mummy Shrimp tonight.  It was a wonderful meal and I got to hang with the Lennex's again.

What was going on???

A juggling fire dance show!!
This guy had a spinning ball on the umbrella while juggling.

Lady had a hoola hoop on fire

While we were watching the dancing, Wanda stole the sticky pudding!!!

And speaking of pretty as a sunset, look who popped up on my facebook feed tonight.  I'm gonna use her as my sunset picture tonight.  What a beautiful lady with such an amazing talent.  She has even been on Canada's Got Talent this past year.  Julianna Moore shares her music with us at Cj's back home a couple times a summer for "Music in the Park" and she reminded me that I better get busy contacting our list of talent for this year.  We are looking forward to her joining us again this summer. Good Nite!!

A Couple of my Favourite Foods Today

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

I finally found the Birria guy back in his old spot by the plaza.  He remembered me, (why wouldn't he?) and made me dos taco de birria medio!!!  Mmmm they tasted soooo good.  I added just the right amount of onion, cilantro, and hot salsa to make them delicious.  They are nice and juicy so I have to watch not to get any on me.

I finally got in to see the Dr today after he was closed on Monday and not in Tuesday and Wednesday.  He checked out my ear and told me for 60,000 ($4750.00 Cnd) pesos he could fix it.  It involves a plastic surgeon and anesthesia apparently.  I will contact my skin specialist back home and set up to see him to get a second opinion I think.  Although I certainly trust doctors down here, my insurance will not cover this, so I think I will go home and get it fixed when I get there.  I know I had made a post earlier about the Dr office and how they have to duck under the counter all the time to get into the back.  Well they finally got a contractor to cut out the counter so now they don't have to duck!!!

counter cut out and door half door added.

You can even leave a tip at the Dr office!!!

As much as I love Birria there is another thing I love and that is spaghetti and meat sauce.  Ken and Rhonda invited me to their place for some really great spaghetti!  Thanks so much!!! It was yummy.

Archie knows that right after sunset is usually his walk and he will let me know when its time.  He just gives a few little wuffs to remind me.  So cute!!!

Our Pretty Silver Fan Tree Fell Over

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Again this morning I went out in search of Birria but there was none to be found.  No idea where all the birria vendors are but I couldn't find any.  As I was riding along I ran into Allison and Robert who were in search of taco's of some sort, so I joined them.  This was a new little restaurant that I had never been to, so it was nice to try it out.  The tacos were quite tasty and for a coke and 2 tacos it was 85 pesos.

I had a lemonade and cucumber drink which was really tasty!!!

We had a little tragedy today when one of the big silver fan trees fell over.  It was discovered that the termites had completely eaten the trunk from the inside out. Jen got Joel to come and cut it up and haul it away.  He is such a good worker.

My project today was to boil a pot of potatoes!!  I love mashed potatoes and even have them for a snack so I like to keep some in the fridge to just pop in the microwave anytime I get a craving!! I added a chirizo tonight and called it supper.

I missed sunset tonight but caught this after picture.  Nothing spectacular here tonight.  Jen also got a picture from up top of everyone sitting around the palapa.  Thanks Jen!!!  Good Nite!!!
