A Close up With A Man o' War

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

This morning started out with Ron and Lilly getting their trailer washed.  They will be leaving us next week and they want it all shiny for Brad and Julie when they come to see it in a couple weeks.  Our friends Martin and Monica are still in the RV washing business and they did a good job again today.

Then the next excitement was the arrival of the water truck.  Needing water had nothing to do with the RV wash because they bring their own water in a tank in the back of the van.

I visited with John while the cistern was filling.  He is getting in a panic because Kirly has been gone for a week or so and today he has to get the trailer back in shape.  You know us guys and our procrastination!!!

Jen got us to come see her find of the day!!  Yup it's a Blue Button (Man o War type) and it can give you quite a sting if it gets those tentacles on you.  There have been a few of these on the beaches around here lately.  The Portuguese man o' war also known as a bluebottle is not a jelly fish but is a siphonophore.   They have no way of swimming so they rely on wind and currents to get around. It has a gas filled bubble on top to catch the wind and to help it float.  Its tentacles can be up to 100 feet long and they are used to sting its prey.  They usually hang out in colonies of up to 1000 individuals.

she originally caught it in a bag
It had a clear bubble with bright blue bottom and tentacles

and that blue thing is how they sting you

Archie was not at all interested in the Man o' War and just hung out in my chair this afternoon while everyone else played in the pool.  It was a warm afternoon!!

Later in the evening I went with Ron and Lilly to Side Street Escondido for supper.  I had some thin steak thing in breading which was so tough you couldn't cut it with a knife, but the mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy was to die for.  Lilly had a Rueben sandwich which she brought home for Archie.  Ron had lasagna which he said was great.  All in all a hard no!!!

We played some cards after we got home until everyone was so tired, they started to fall asleep on us.  Time for bed!!!  Good Nite!!
