Volkswagen Parade

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

One thing I have been doing lately is playing Tim Hortons hockey challenge.  You get to pick 3 players every day and if they score a goal you get some Tim Horton points.  Also if you pick a winner 7 days in a row, you get coffee for a week.  Well I just completed a 7 day run so I won coffee for a week!! Yahoo!! Except I have to claim the prize within 5 days.  I guess that is not going to happen.  Shoot.

Next job on the list was to take all our bedding to the laundry.  Sue and I have both been through colds lately so it will be nice to have a nice smelling soft bed to sleep in tonight.

Another little project that I have been wanting to do is redo the hole in our sewer compartment.  It was off to one side before and so the pipe had to be run out the door instead of the hole.  Every
time you disconnected the hose from the pipe, whatever was in the hose would spill all over the compartment and then drain out.  Now I was smart enough to make sure that grey water was the last thing dumped.  Hate getting poop in the compartment.  So I cut a new hole and moved the plastic ring.  I will get a 90 degree fitting in the US later.  For now at least when I disconnect the hose, the little bit of grey water will drain on the ground and can then be washed down the sewer.

Then it was off to get Archie his Screw worm papers.  Some snowbird somewhere found an old article somewhere that says your dog needs a screw worm certificate to get back in the USA.  Of course with all the wild stories some people are dreaming up about the US, everyone thinks that us Canadians will have big troubles going back through the border, and that they will do anything to prevent us and screw worm is the new talking point. The reality is that the US has no interest in checking you dogs papers for screw worm, and after watching posts faithfully for the last month on border crossings, only 1 person that I saw was asked for screw worm certificate.   It's a money scam but everyone is so scared that they go get the certificate.  It costs anywhere from 1200 to 2000 peso's.  Good on the local vet for getting in on the stupidity of who ever got this scam going.  It has nothing to do with the Mexicans, but they are reaping the benefit.  Anyway we like the sheep before us, got the screw worm certificate and I will love to present it to the customs officer when we cross the border.  Maybe I can just show it to him on my cell phone!!!  Stay tuned.  Oh yes and the certificate is only good for 5 days!!!

By the way, the test involves taking the dogs temperature and weighing him.  Nothing to do with eyes, ears, nose, or mouth.  No blood work, no nothing!!!  Even Archie knows this is a scam.  Oh well!!

Tonight Rhonda, Ken and I headed to Guayabitos to check out the Volkswagen parade.  They have one every year and Volkswagens from all over come to spend the weekend showing off and partying while lots of suppliers of custom parts try to sell them their latest neat things.  We saw a few good ones but not nearly as many as in years past.  We enjoyed what we saw and came home. Good Nite!!

Meeting a Teacher from My Past

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

This morning I had a message on my phone from Joyce Williamson asking if I was the Lorne Green that went to Huntly school.  I messaged back and we had a great old chat on Messenger.  I had seen Mrs. Williamson about 20 years ago at a function at Huntly.  I still have to call her Mrs. Williamson because that is what we were taught to do for our teachers.  We never called them by the first name.  She was an outstanding teacher and taught me at Huntly school for a few years during my mid to late elementary school years.  She even sent me a school Christmas concert photo with some of my friends.  Our school only had about 12 or 13 students at any time so Christmas were a highlight for all of us.  I must make a point of visiting Mrs. Williamson this summer after I get home.  Thanks for the pictures.  Her and her husband Lloyd just celebrated 60 years of marriage.

The owners of the place where we stay, Ed and Jen, arrived back to spend a few days shutting things down for the summer.  They are planning some upgrades over the summer and that needs to be coordinated with the contractors.  We look forward to being here again next year.  I never did get a picture of them when they arrived.  Sunset came again tonight and its well behind the island now.

And we ended the night watching another episode of Survivor.  Good Nite!!!

All Cleaned up and Ready to Go.

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

Wash and wax day for RRV.  We gave it a wash a couple months ago but that was just interim control of salt and grime.  The wash today is the one that will last the summer.  Martin and Monica did a great job as usual.

Nice shiny MH.  This is the side that is in the sun all the time.  The decals have bleached out enough that they don't want to come shiny any more.

Kenia has a partner at the Cafecito now and they do wings and french fries.  She did this to try to attract more people to her area.  It seems to be working because there were lots of people around.  Both Kenia and Serg and Suzanne were quite busy.  We ordered an order as well as a bionico and frappe.  Kenia seems to have a bit of a business sense about her to figure this out.  Now lets see if she can carry it through.  Good luck!!!

We had an awesome supper and then headed for home.  Good Nite!!

Lunch with Kenia

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

Somebody didn't make it home last night or maybe this was home for the night.  When Archie and I went walking we saw this guy and his dog having a siesta after some cervezas.  Normally we would feel sorry for someone like this, but he was snug as a bug in a rug with no danger of frostbite.  We let him sleep on.

I had a couple small projects today.  One was to change a window screen upstairs in the suite and to fix the patio doors so the screens closed properly and the door locked.  Also I took the big screen front off of the motorhome and hung it on a line to wash it.

We had a lunch date with Kenia today so headed down to the Chinese restaurant in Guayabitos.  There we had a lovely lunch with lots to eat.  We don't get to visit with Kenia much now that she is so busy with her business.

We just sat around and chatted for the rest of the afternoon and it wasn't long and it was sunset again.  The sun is setting well behind the island now so it is soon time to go.  Good Nite!!

Kip and Suzanna hit the Road

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

This morning we said goodbye to Kip and Suzanna and Luna.  They have been with us since December in the suites and we have enjoyed them very much.  They are off to the Lake Chapala area for a while before heading for their home in mid May.  See you guys again!!

Next up was one last haircut which will have to do until I get home.  Rocio did an awesome job as usual.  She always reminds me to do the selfie!!

And yes, Jeff and Fany got the keys to their new house today so we all headed up to check it out.  It was late afternoon so we had a few snacks on the roof before watching the sunset.  It is so exciting for them to get this dream started.  They have a lot of plans.  I will leave the house pictures to them when they are ready.   The view from the 4th floor terrace is incredible.  They have plans for a palapa up here which will be great when they come up for sunsets.  There will always be a breeze up here as well.

Sunset from here is a whole different angle.  No longer is the sun setting behind the island but more like behind crab island.  Good Nite!!
