First Day on the Road

WHERE ARE WE?           Bismark North Dakota
NEXT DESTINATION?    North Platte, Nebraska

We spent the night in our daughters driveway and were up bright and early because I had to go back to the shack to get some stuff that we forgot.  Can you imagine that we would forget somethin?  Well maybe it was me that forgot something.  We had a 9:00 appointment at the bank and when we got there it was Credit Union day so of course we had to have coffee with the manager and the girls.  We were the only ones in there at that time of day.  We will miss their smiles!!!

We got on the road about 10 and headed to Virden for our last Tim Hortons until May.  Although I used to be a bit addicted to their coffee, I'm not anymore.  Timmies is just a Canadian Icon thing so we like to flog it.

Next stop was the border crossing at Westhope ND.  We had a couple nice customs officers who did their job and then stopped to chat about our Mexico trip.  They said they envied us and wished us a good trip.   They did ask for Charlies papers, which has never happened before so make sure you have you animal papers up to date when crossing the border.   This was the longest we have ever been at the border in our travels and it was all do to just chatting.   We drove out and Pat and Harold were right behind us.  They got through quite quickly, but I noticed the customs lady running out and chasing them on foot.  She gave them something and headed back to the port.   Pat texted us to let us know that the customs officer had forgot to give us back Charlies papers, so they gave them to them.  Nice..

Next stop was The Magic City.  Anyone know which city is known as the Magic City.  P & H had a parcel to pick up and we needed some groceries.  H also NEEDED beer he said.   We killed about and hour and a half there before hitting the road again.

We had lunch on the road so we could push on down the road.  We have a lot of miles to make in the next 6 days.

There are lots and lots of wind farms in North Dakota.  Its kinda funny because the coal plant just down the road is still going full bore as well.  Don't think we will be done with fossil fuels for a while yet.

We got to Bismarck ND about supper time and pulled to the far end of the Walmart parking lot for the night.  It is beautiful here with temperatures in the mid teens Celsius.  It will take me a while to get converted to Fahrenheit again.

Harold and I went for a walk around the mall area just to stretch our legs.  We came across a pile of snow that indicates how much snow fell in the storm that went through here a few days ago.

Here is where we travelled today.

And the view out our window tonight:

  5. Keep that snow up there, we don't need it in South Dakota. You went within a few miles of "The Farm" we visit on 83 just south of Minot.
