It was a beautiful morning on the beach today. Ed was already out doing coffee when I headed out.
We had to do a double take when we looked down the beach because there was a familiar looking RV sitting there. We rubbed our eyes and pinched ourselves before realizing it was not our friends Jeff and Fany.
Later in the morning, our friend Randy dropped by and invited me to come check his crab traps. He keeps a couple around so they always have fresh crab. He has them at friends piers because he doesn't live right on the bay. The piers are quite long but there is only about 4 or 5 feet water at the end.
He got 4 or 5 crabs in each trap. The blue ones he can keep the whole thing but can on keep 1 claw from the other species. Well I got to wondering why they just rip 1 claw off and throw them back to die!! Well apparently they don't die at all but rather grow a new claw!!! I never asked how long this would take to happen but it happens all the same.
Each trap had a couple small catfish in them as well but they just go back in the water. He will be away for a few days so he just left the traps on the pier until he gets back.
Because it was a hot afternoon, Sue and I decided to go for a drive. I had watched a cargo ship come in to Point Comfort the other day and was curious what it was carrying. I can see it with my binoculars and it has been using it's cranes to lift stuff out of the hold. We are too far away to see what it is so this was my chance to see. Well I couldn't have timed it any better because when we arrived, we got to see them move one huge load of petro chemical plant stuff from the ship to the holding yard across the road. The mover thingy was huge and I figure had about 240 wheels under it. The machine was self propelled and the guy driving rode on the front. It was pretty awesome to see!!!
After that we toured around the north side of the bay for a couple hours. We came across a little store and restaurant and when we went inside we were floored!!! There was everything but the kitchen sink in there, in fact the sink was actually there. This place was like out in the middle of nowhere!! We had some chicken and a cheeseburger and then headed for home.
One interesting thing was the mailboxes for the whole area were all on one fence on one street in town. There were over 100 I'm sure. I bet the mailman enjoys coming here. They are hard to see but everyone has their own. They go all the way to the end of the block and then around the corner as well.
We had a great day today but it was quite hot. I think I like it better than the alternative!! Good Nite!!
