We headed off down the Natchez Trace again this morning. More trees and narrow road.
I stopped at a pull off by a place called the French Encampment to make a coffee and there was an old house across a little bridge.
Of course I had to investigate. Actually it was a whole set of early 1900's buildings. The house was just kinda there, no one around and some of the boards in the deck broken and rotted. Yet looking in the locked doors and windows it was a fine show piece.
Whoever lived there obviously died and there is living proof of that in these grave markers. These guys died almost 200 years ago!!!
Back on the road again. More trees and winding road. Very pretty.
Further along we came across a field of cotton. I have never had the chance to see cotton this close to harvest. I am amazed by how its just like 5 cotton balls on each plant. It takes a country boy to get interested in this stuff.
We pulled into Natchez about 5 pm and found a nice spot to park down by the Mississippi River. Natchez is actually the starting point of the Natchez Trace so it is true that we did it backwards. 444 miles! Yes!!!! We have resumed our Mississippi tour!!! I am actually glad our Natchez Trace tour is over. Although the scenery is great, after about 75 or 100 miles it kinda gets boring. And its like you are locked away from civilization because you see nothing, no towns, no farms, very few other people. You just drive and drive and wind around up and down for endless miles. We have done it from one end to the other, but I will never do it again. It's a one time show! Sorry to disappoint anyone with my review. Anyway we are back by the river and in civilization again where I belong.
We unhooked the Jeep and had some supper and then went for a drive. Of course I had to drive across the big bridge into Louisiana and then back over to Mississippi.
We found the horse and carriage guy. $30 bucks per person for 45 minutes. Maybe tomorrow!!
Then it was time for sunset. We were in Mississippi but the sun set in Louisiana!!! How neat!!
This is our view out our front window tonight. Good Nite!
You didn't disappoint me about the Natchez Trace at all. I didn't want to say anything negative as you seemed to be enjoying it so much. We didn't do even half of it and although happy to have done part of it, we found it boring after a while too. Black Beauty wanted to move!! :) Your pictures are great. I do love the little homestead camp. Nice that it isn't being damaged.
