We are Hanging Around Waiting for Milton to Blow By

WHERE ARE WE? Natchez, Mississippi

Our next stop is scheduled to be Slidell which is just outside New Orleans so there could be some winds there as Hurricane Milton passes by.  We are about 100 miles north of there, so although we will probably have some wind, it certainly won't be dangerous in any way.  So we just did our thing today.  I watched some river barges hauling things up and down the river.

We went out for lunch today and after we were finished we did a little self guided tour of the town.  The highlight of the tour was the Basilica of Saint Mary.  Now I am not of the Catholic faith so what I say here may not be totally correct.  This church was built starting 1842.  In 1998 it was elevated to be a Minor Basilica which is a big thing for a cathedral.  I think being a Basilica is a pretty big thing, and everyone around here certainly views the church as a major historical landmark of the Natchez community.  It is a beautiful building and certainly worth our time to view it.

I think the church was surprised to see us!!

Beautiful Alter area

Stained glass was amazing

A Colonel from the Revolution buried here almost 200 years ago.

After the tour we took the Jeep for a bath.  It has hopped and bopped along behind us down the dirty old highway, having all sorts of gross things tossed at it by Percy.  We went to one that does the bug scrub first and then lots and lots of soapy water.  The lights inside the wash change colour which makes the whole car wash like a special experience.

And the final product was a nice clean Jeep.

The days are definitely getting shorter and sunset comes quickly.  The sunset here tonight was spectacular with lots of red and yellow.  Actually I missed a photo cause my phone was dead but this one I stole from the Natchez web site is exactly what we saw.  Good Nite!!
