Karalee is Here for a Week

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

Karalee arrived today from cold Manitoba.  We were headed into PV to pick her up.  Before we left, we set up the welcome sign for Ron and Lilly who will arrive from Canada before we get back from PV.  It will be fun to have them back.

Karalee's flight arrives at 2:15 our time so we will have lots of time to get home before dark.  I always like the drive up the 200 through the mountains and the forests.  It is so jungle like and there are lots of little pueblo's along the way.

We had to stop at the Chedraiu store to get some peso's.  They only charge 30 peso's to withdraw up to 10000 peso rather than 197 for 5000 in La Penita.  We have discussed Remitly but this works well and we are in PV enough that a special trip is never needed.  We didn't mind taking that much out because the exchange rate is 14.50 right now.

When we came out I was walking to the Jeep and noticed what looked like oil on the front tire.  Sure enough there was the tell tale streaks of oil from a leaking seal.  Oh oh, what do we do now.  You always get that sinking feeling like the end of the world has just happened and you are all alone.  Not only that, it is Saturday and nothing will be open to fix it anyway.  After a bit of inspection I found that it was the seal on the front drive shaft for the 4 wheel drive so it was not really affecting the wheel.  So that eliminated any real danger, but now will we wreck something real bad that will cost lots.  I went over it in my head and figured that we only drive 60 kms and that shaft doesn't turn that fast, nor does it have any weight on it so we should be fine.  As long as there continues to be oil coming out, the differential and any bearings should be ok.   So I decided to carry on. I will keep both fingers crossed and keep making sure there is oil coming out.

We made it to the airport in lots of time to meet Karalee.  It will be fun to have her here for a week.  Hopefully I can get the Jeep fixed quickly so we can do some road tours. The waiting area was crowded and we waited over an hour before she made it out to us.

We headed for home and made it without anything heating, and the oil was still coming out so I think all is good.  Hopefully only a seal and maybe a bearing.  We will see on Monday.  First thing that Karalee wanted to see was the ocean and her mom joined her.

It will be nice to have her smiling face around here for a while.  I think she is the only kid that will make it to Mexico this year.

Missed the sunset but the after colours were great.  Good Nite!!

A Great Day in Every Way

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

This morning Martin and Monica came to give Ron and Lillie's trailer a nice wash to be ready for them to arrive here tomorrow.  While they were here, we got them to give the Jeep a quick splash as well.

Next on the agenda was go get my part for the electric bike from George and Henny.  They brought it from Texas for me.  The kit I need comes in 2 parts because without high tech tools, the factory doesn't know which part is the problem so they ship both parts to cover all their bases. Because one of the parts was backordered and shipped later, it didn't make it in time for George to pick it up so I was hoping that the part that got shipped was the solution to the problem.  Alas it was not so now we gotta figure out how to get the other part to us.

And today was laundry day so I dropped by to pick up our warm amazing smelling laundry that I had dropped off earlier.  There is nothing that can compare to the smell when you rip that bag open!! And all for $197 pesos!!

Next on the list was to meet Kenia on the Malecon for some pictures.  She is on a committee who is having a contest to see who has the best team to be the event committee for La Penita.  It is a pretty prestigious position so she is pumped.  She is with team Orange and so we all wore orange for the pictures.  We hope she is successful.  She loves to be in the limelight and she certainly was this afternoon.

Now for a little story.  Today Kenia and Oscar were at Abuela's (their grandma's) and Oscar called Kenia into the bedroom area.  Their Abuela has been looking after a friend of hers from their community and has invited her to live in her house so she can look after her.  Anyway Oscar had noticed that Abuela had taken the mattress off of her bed to put on the other bed for her ill friend.  Abuela has been lying on a piece of plywood on the bedframe with a couple thin blankets for padding under her.  Oscar could not believe it and told Kenia that they must go to Kenia's house and get his mattress for Abuela to have.  He felt he could sleep on the floor or the couch as long as grandma was comfortable.  Kenia messaged us to tell us about what Oscar was planning to do and we put a stop to that.  A new mattress is only like 1800 pesos or $125 Canadian.  Abuela has been so good to us and has accepted us as part of their family, so it was an honour for us to buy a mattress for her.  Even when we took her to the store to pick it out, she was worried how she would pay.  The look on her face when we handed the receipt to her and on it  was a stamp that said PAID!!  The look on her face and the tear in her eye as she gave us all big hugs was all the payment we needed.  And you ask why we come to Mexico?   This is one of the big reasons.  These people have such big hearts and we like to think that we have been a good influence on Kenia and Oscar to be the best people they can be.  They certainly have a great Abuela as an example.  So we loaded it on Kenia's car and took it to Abuela's house.

Kenia has got herself a new to her car.  It is a Ford Explorer.  I have no idea what vintage it is, but she loves it.  Does she have insurance and a drivers license?  Probably not, but who cares around here.  Does it have seatbelts?  Somewhere but never used, and a car seat for a kid, not likely.  Lots of folks will frown on that but this is the way it is here.  We used to do the same thing 50 years ago and we all lived.

After supper I took a walk downtown and there was a dance group that had the street blocked off.  They were dancing to just a drum beat and were they ever good.  I watched for a little while.

Then I slipped over to the cafecito for a strawberry smoothie.  Great way to end the night.

Tonight there was a pretty lady in the pretty sunset.  Good Nite!!

Thanksgiving Pot Luck

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

We saw a bit of a sad thing this morning while having our coffee.  A boat went by pulling something and it soon became obvious that it was a dead whale.  It didn't look like a full grown one but rather just maybe 20 or 25 feet long.  Because there was a nice breeze from the ocean this morning, we got a good taste of why they tow them away to a deserted beach to be scavenged by whatever needs them for food.  The smell is absolutely rank.  At least it didn't last long as the boat moved out to sea.

I had to get aggressive with the pool this morning and give it a good dose of chlorine.  I have been adding a little at a time, but when I checked today it was really low.  I guess I will have to be more aggressive with the chemicals.  Tomorrow I will get the PH under control as it is a little low.

And the shadow stranger and his dog went for a walk about sunset.  No it was not a long tall Texan!!

We were invited by Jeff and Fany to be their guests at the Big RV Park Thanksgiving potluck supper.  We tend to celebrate the American Thanksgiving because it happens when we are all settled in rather that the Canadian Thanksgiving, which is right in the middle of our fall southern migration. We headed up there about 5:30 and had a wonderful evening visiting with all our old friends from the park.  Thanks Jeff and Fany for inviting us.  We left with our tummies and hearts full.

Sunset was the same as every other day.  Absolutely awesome!! Someone commented that my pictures were peaceful and calming.  I tend to agree based on this one.  Good Nite!!

Meet the New Owners

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

Another beautiful morning around here.  We had some pigeons come to visit and there was a pretty white one in the bunch.  Archie likes to run them off after watching them for a little while.  It took him a little while this morning because he was pretty comfy in Sue's chair.

We had a little fender bender in the parking lot this morning.  No details at this time!!!  Just a wee owie to the Jeep.  Nothing a touch of paint won't fix.

A little project to put a better shade on our back window.  This keeps the morning sun from shining in and creating a bunch of unnecessary heat in RRV.  The weather is such that AC is not a necessity if you can have a couple fans running.

As promised, I spoke to the new owners and they have no problem with me publishing a picture of them with their welcome sign.  We know they will love this new place and we hope they find lots of time to relax and enjoy what we call Paradise.  We are glad that they agreed to honor all the reservations for the 2024-25 season so we can enjoy it as well.  Welcome Ed and Jen.

A little bit of computer research while supper cooked tonight.  Sausage and perogies it was.  Yummy!!

Then the sun went down and we called it a day again.  Good Nite!!

Lots of Visiting Today

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

I have mentioned before that I don't normally see a lot of sunrises but because I was in bed all day yesterday, I was wide awake when it popped over the mountain this morning.  Another clear beautiful day in the forecast.

Lots of visiting and such today.  Sue spent a good deal of the morning getting to know the new owner, Jen.  Because we know a lot about what goes on around here, we are trying to share as much of that information as we can with them.  I think maybe it can a little overwhelming so we are trying to go with bite sized chunks.  Both Jen and Ed have pretty much figured out what their hopes are moving forward and that is good.  Now we hope we can help them reach the goals they have.  After lunch Fany and Max stopped by for a visit.  Jeff was not with them because last night he accidently spilled a tequila bottle and it knocked over a rum bottle and most of both of then went down his throat!!!  Poor guy!!  Glad he will be ok.

Park friends Zach and Sandra showed up today with their tent.  They will be spending a few days with us while they have a wee holiday.  Its always nice to see the return campers coming along.

Suzannes friend Ken dropped by this morning as well to grab some more things that were left behind and to pick up Joel and take him to Los Cocos.   It was nice to see Ken again.

I managed to work in a little time to backwash the pool system and add some chlorine.  For some reason the chlorine dropped off dramatically over the last couple days.  I think we caught it in time.

Next on the list was Martin and Monica who dropped by with their cute little ones to give Jen a quote for a deep clean of some of the casa.  Jen was away at first so we managed to get in a nice visit with them.  They have cleaned our Motor homes and Jeep before and do a good job.

By the time we were done with all our visitors, it was time to put our feet up and relax for the evening. What shall we watch!!  See everyone tomorrow!!
