A Great Day in Every Way

WHERE ARE WE? Numero Uno RV Park, La Penita, Mexico

This morning Martin and Monica came to give Ron and Lillie's trailer a nice wash to be ready for them to arrive here tomorrow.  While they were here, we got them to give the Jeep a quick splash as well.

Next on the agenda was go get my part for the electric bike from George and Henny.  They brought it from Texas for me.  The kit I need comes in 2 parts because without high tech tools, the factory doesn't know which part is the problem so they ship both parts to cover all their bases. Because one of the parts was backordered and shipped later, it didn't make it in time for George to pick it up so I was hoping that the part that got shipped was the solution to the problem.  Alas it was not so now we gotta figure out how to get the other part to us.

And today was laundry day so I dropped by to pick up our warm amazing smelling laundry that I had dropped off earlier.  There is nothing that can compare to the smell when you rip that bag open!! And all for $197 pesos!!

Next on the list was to meet Kenia on the Malecon for some pictures.  She is on a committee who is having a contest to see who has the best team to be the event committee for La Penita.  It is a pretty prestigious position so she is pumped.  She is with team Orange and so we all wore orange for the pictures.  We hope she is successful.  She loves to be in the limelight and she certainly was this afternoon.

Now for a little story.  Today Kenia and Oscar were at Abuela's (their grandma's) and Oscar called Kenia into the bedroom area.  Their Abuela has been looking after a friend of hers from their community and has invited her to live in her house so she can look after her.  Anyway Oscar had noticed that Abuela had taken the mattress off of her bed to put on the other bed for her ill friend.  Abuela has been lying on a piece of plywood on the bedframe with a couple thin blankets for padding under her.  Oscar could not believe it and told Kenia that they must go to Kenia's house and get his mattress for Abuela to have.  He felt he could sleep on the floor or the couch as long as grandma was comfortable.  Kenia messaged us to tell us about what Oscar was planning to do and we put a stop to that.  A new mattress is only like 1800 pesos or $125 Canadian.  Abuela has been so good to us and has accepted us as part of their family, so it was an honour for us to buy a mattress for her.  Even when we took her to the store to pick it out, she was worried how she would pay.  The look on her face when we handed the receipt to her and on it  was a stamp that said PAID!!  The look on her face and the tear in her eye as she gave us all big hugs was all the payment we needed.  And you ask why we come to Mexico?   This is one of the big reasons.  These people have such big hearts and we like to think that we have been a good influence on Kenia and Oscar to be the best people they can be.  They certainly have a great Abuela as an example.  So we loaded it on Kenia's car and took it to Abuela's house.

Kenia has got herself a new to her car.  It is a Ford Explorer.  I have no idea what vintage it is, but she loves it.  Does she have insurance and a drivers license?  Probably not, but who cares around here.  Does it have seatbelts?  Somewhere but never used, and a car seat for a kid, not likely.  Lots of folks will frown on that but this is the way it is here.  We used to do the same thing 50 years ago and we all lived.

After supper I took a walk downtown and there was a dance group that had the street blocked off.  They were dancing to just a drum beat and were they ever good.  I watched for a little while.

Then I slipped over to the cafecito for a strawberry smoothie.  Great way to end the night.

Tonight there was a pretty lady in the pretty sunset.  Good Nite!!
