Headed down to Los Mochis

WHERE ARE WE? Los Mochis, Mexico

We are on the move again.  We packed up and had a quick coffee with Sandra and Michael and Ollie and then it was time to move on.

We headed into Guaymas to get some cash at the Walmart and then some fuel on Airport road.  We had 3 of the nicest guys falling all over us to give us fuel and no they were not trying to scam us.  Gas is not cheap in Mexico though.  We paid 1.86/liter CND for our fuel today.

We had a nice uneventful drive today.  For the most part the roads were good and we were waved through 3 different check stops all of which were ligitimate.  We saw 18 pickup trucks with military and marines and policia on the roads today.  I always like to see them out and about, however one truck had a guy with a machine gun pointed over the cab at oncoming traffic.  Those guns have big holes in the end when you are looking right down the barrel of them!!!  Yes sir, anything you say sir!! LOL.

Those white lines tell me to slow down....tope!!

Lots of flat ag land with mountain backdrops today.

More white lines and a vendor by the tope!!

A checkstop ahead.  Friendly wave!!

Still desert like scenery mid afternoon

One of the things we look for is the statue by Obregon.  It is a man with a deer head.  There he is now!!

One thing we did different today was to go downtown Navajoa!!  We have heard how dangerous it is and that there are lots of crooked cops.  Although it was busy, it was just another nice town.  Lots of traffic though.

One of the things I noticed today was the amount of abandoned buildings and businesses along the highway.  These are not in any town, but rather along the highway randomly.  And 95% of them were abandoned.  Most of them were little restaurants.  I wonder why they all failed???

And there were fires, lots of fires!!!  The Mexicans love to burn stuff and it is likely because the stuff that grows where it is not supposed to, like along the road, is really thick and mostly prickly.  Burning is the best way to get rid of it I guess.

Sue spotted a funny looking truck ahead of it.  Well well, I though maybe it was Jed Clampett!!!  Yes you gotta be old to remember "The Beverly Hillbillies."  I got by him as quick as I could cause I'm not sure this load will make it to its destination.

Archie spent some of his time chewing on a stick.  We have been training him not to bark at every motorcycle, cow, or horse he sees and today he did real well.

As we got closer to Los Mochis, the landscape became a little more tropical.  The palm trees started showing up along the road instead of cactus.  Nice to see.

We arrived at the Elba Restaurante at about 4:30 pm.  The truck stop behind has a gated area where is you pay the gatekeeper 100 peso's you can stay for the night. Its out in the middle of nowhere with nothing much around it. We thought we might eat at the restaurant but nope, it was closed for the day.  Funny story though, when we pulled in there was one other RV there.  The guy comes over and gets to talking.   Where are you going Sue says?   La Penita guy says.   Oh where abouts are you going to stay there?  Little RV park on the beach he says.  Whats the name sue askes?   Numero Uno he says!  Well yup they are going to be staying in our little park almost right beside us.  Howard and Linda are their names and we think they will be fun to hang with for a while this winter.  They are off to Mazatlan the same as us tomorrow and we will meet at the park in La Penita on Friday!!  Small world huh??

We did manage the tail end of a sunset!!  We imagined that Sandra and Michael were looking at the same sun back in San Carlos.

This was our travel map for today.  We will move on south to Mazatlan tomorrow.

And a view out our window today as we travelled along.  Good Nite!!  PS. Get well Sheri!!

  1. We saw several pickup trucks packed like that heading south when we were in Why, AZ last year. It is a wonder how all the stuff stays on. Continued safe travels.

  3. You are almost 'home'!
We followed a truck like that last winter in our way home from Parker. He was a few vehicles ahead of us and when we saw a big chair on the side of the road, we knew it was his. Lol. Worksheets be allowed in Ontario!
    Safe journey! Good bot, Archie.
