When I got up this morning I turned on the hot water so we can all do our morning chores. There it was, that nice bright shining light telling me the hot water tank was on propane. Don't know why I hadn't completed this modification sooner. It will save a lot of propane.
After morning happy hour, Charlie and I headed out for a walk up to the mine that is just to the west of us by Q mountain. There are lots of abandoned mines around here and it is neat to explore them. It is also good exercise for me to keep my ticker in shape. The hill going up there is quite steep, but I have learned to take small steps and stop and look around lots.
When we got up there I sat and marveled at what must have been the story behind this mine. Obviously someone had invested a fair bit of money into their dream, and it looks like one day they just shut it off and walked away. I wonder what made them decide that this was the end of their dream?
It was like the last truck backed in and dumped his load and then went home, never to return.
Maybe down there somewhere in Quartzsite is someone who could tell me the story. It would be fun to find out what happened.
Right next to this smaller mountain is Q mountain which will be our goal to conquer another day. It may take a little longer to climb this one.
When Charlie and I got home, Sue had finished painting the kitchen cupboards that she started the other day. If you don't remember, here is what they looked like.
I got busy and put the microwave back in and the doors back on. The whole thing looks very nice now.
After finishing this up I went to work on the propane hose door for the hose that hooks to our Buddy Heater. It will be nice to have it handy for anytime we want to hook it up.
After I got the hole cut, Sue put on the rest of the wallpaper before I put the hose door on.
Here is what the hose will look like when we need it in the living room.
And we have enough hose that we can put the heater in the bathroom and close the door for those really cold nights when we are sleeping. (with the roof vent open a wee bit!!).
That was enough for the projects today and we headed out for happy hour on the deck. Lessie brought over snacks tonight and was not impressed with my idea for a table. She assured everyone that her snack was NOT crappy!!!!
The view from our window tonight was a beautiful hue of pink. Even the ground appeared to be pink. Gorgeous Arizona sunset.
Our Location tonight: Boon docking at West La Posa LTVA, near Quartzsite AZ 33.6572 - 114.228
"Away" is a place not found on a map, but you'll know you're there when you get there. And then it happens. One day you wake up and you're in this place where everything feels right. Your heart is calm, your soul is light, your thoughts are positive and your vision is clear. Your faith is stronger than ever and you're at peace. At peace with where you've been and with what you've been through and at peace with where you are headed. A place called away.
Now you and Doug have gone and done it...two more mines Tom will want to explore...:)
ReplyDeleteReally like how the cupboards turned out.
Nice table you have for Happy Hour. Guessing it will hold in place even with a breeze...lol
It will be my job to make the table go away in the next couple days.
DeleteGreat work you guys. The cupboards look awesome especially with the red microwave. Love the long hose on the heater.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky pictures and nice to see the mine through your eyes. Thank you for the tour.
I picked out the microwave!!! Just sayin!!!
DeleteI like your mods for the propane hose. Great idea. Out of site and not getting kicked when you aren't using it.
ReplyDeleteThat was the plan, out of sight but handy. I think it worked good.
DeleteLooking good with the projects, Lorne. That was funny using the toilet box as a dinner table.
ReplyDeleteYou may need that heater this coming week. Going to get downright cold at night for a few nights.
Beautiful mine. Lot of work went into that dream and now it's gone. Poof!
This morning was chilly here but it always warms up real fast. Love Arizona.
DeleteWow, nice look to the end of those projects. Very impressive with the red microwave!!
ReplyDeleteLove the crappy table. Too cute.
Glad you're getting to the top of those places, always interesting to view the surrounding areas and see how far you've actually climbed.
The mine owner had the last load dumped and went home but passed before he could work it. His family didn't want to be bothered and just walk away from it, left it the way he had left it before going home. That's what I think the story is.
Love the pictures!!
I'm going to go with your story. Maybe the gold is still there!!!
DeleteThe reno's look awesome!
ReplyDeleteChange is good Donkey!!! Isn't that the famous Shrek saying?
DeleteNice to get those projects done and your exercise in. keep enjoying the area.
ReplyDeleteQ will always have a special place in our hearts.
DeleteGreat job on the projects you two! Love the propane door, perhaps you will help H with a similar one?!?
ReplyDeleteI can attest that Lessie's snacks are awesome and usually keto friendly lol!! Hope you have room for us, should be there by Thursday!
Thanks. We are waiting, and waiting, and waiting. LOL
