Eggs Benedict!

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Kenia came over this morning and cooked us a breakfast of Eggs Benedict.  She makes the best that I have tasted.  They have a strong limon flavour which appeals to me.  Kenia loves to cook and takes great pride in doing this.

After breakfast we went to the welding shop where Fernando has made me a new drop down hitch for the Jeep.  The one I have it too high when we hook on to the Cafecito to move it.  This one will work real well.

I headed down to the Cafecito to move it out of the way for market day and spent some time with Katherine.  She is such a spunky little girl and loves her aunty Kenia so much.  They are always fooling with each other.

Tonight we had a really different sunset.  The colours were yellow and purple.  We didn't actually see the sunset because of the clouds, but the clouds were spectacular.  Good Nite!

Been There, Done That, Lets Do it Again

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Wow, it seems like I don't do a post once and 3 days slip away.  It's not like I don't have time to do it, I just procrastinate a lot.  First things today was that our friends Wanda and Irwin and John and Susan got away this morning bound for the airport in PV.  They are heading home to the tropical weather (+7C) they are having in Calgary and home in Manitoba.  The first leg of their flight took them to Calgary where they spend overnight before continuing on to Brandon MB. tomorrow.  Their holiday was a different one, with lots of unplanned things happening along the way.  One to remember for them.

We had a little deviation in plans today and met up with George and Henny and a group of people who were going on the Jungle Tour.  They wanted to know if we wanted to come with them as there was room in the boat.  We had Ken and Rhonda with us and they said what the heck, lets do it.  So that's where we ended up.  The boats are big enough for 12 so away we went.

The boat ride was good because we had to go slow with so many people in the boat so we got to see lots of things.  We saw crocodiles, turtles, birds along the way.

We opted to take in the enclosure where they keep lots of crocs and a couple tigers and jaguars.  It is not the most pristine place but gives you a close up of those things.

Then we boated back to the restaurant and swimming hole.  Sue and Rhonda and George went for a swim while Ken and I just watched.

We always love the Mexican racoons!!  They are called Coatis.

A good day on the jungle tour again.  I think this is our 3rd trip since we started coming to Mexico.  We were a little sad because we were supposed to do this trip with our Manitoba friends, but the appendix operation put a damper on that.  On the way home we saw a Boa Constrictor going across the road.  It was about 4 feet long, but by the time we stopped and I got a picture, it had slithered into the grass by the roadside.

Look close and you will see it.

And the birds enjoyed the sunset as much as we did.  Good Nite!

A Cost Breakdown of Wanda's Surgery

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

After lunch Rhonda, Ken and I went for a little drive to check out the area.  We went to the big RV park and then on to the south side of town where the Bridge of Life is.  This walking suspension bridge was built as a link between La Penita and Rincon Guaybitos after lots of pedestrian car accidents on highway bridge.  That used to be the only way over the estuary, but since the Bridge of Life, you don't have to go on the highway at all if your walking or riding your bike.

Just down the way is where the fishermen dock their boats after a morning of fishing.

We took a little walk out on to the breakwater.  There are a couple memorials to fishermen lost at sea, and an old guy has a little shack out near the end as well.  Apparently this is where he lives.

While we were out and about, Sue went with Irwin and Wanda to the Dr office to get her post operation check up.  She passed with flying colours and will be fit as a fiddle in no time.  If you remember her appendix operation was only a couple days ago.
Here is some information for those of you wondering what a medical procedure might cost you in Mexico even if you didn't have insurance.  Wanda has insurance but will not be reimbursed until after she submits the receipts, so she had to pay up front.  She went into hospital just after supper time last Thursday and was immediately operated on for a perforated appendix.  The hospital she went to, was a recommendation of our friend Dr. Alejandro in Las Ayala and was a Mexican public hospital.  It was basic but clean and friendly.  The care was great and she had a great surgeon.  She was in the hospital for a full 24 hours to make sure everything was ok.  Like I told you in a previous post, her bill for the hospital and operating room was 11400 pesos which she paid before leaving the hospital.  Today she got her check up and had to pay for the services of the surgeon, anesthesia guy, and Dr Alejandro's diagnosis and post op care.  That was a little over 40000 pesos.  So the entire bill for emergency surgery was about 54000 pesos!!  Amazing!!!  That equates to about $4300 Cnd.  What do you think that would have cost her in the USA.  I bet it would have been $50,000 or more.
So from this experience we have learned that medical in Mexico is affordable even if you didn't have insurance, as long as its not too serious.  And the level of care even at the Mexican public hospital is great.  Even though this is not the way she wanted to end her holiday, she is happy everything went the way it did.

We headed up to their suite for sunset and supper tonight.  Sunset was a bust with the cloud cover we had today.

The pool was noticeably quieter today because it was a wee bit cooler.  26C!!  But it still looks pretty from their balcony.

Sue was doing her famous tequila shrimp for supper.  John wanted to be involved so she let him do some of the fire stuff.  I think they had fun doing this part.

Supper was delicious with the shrimp served on a bed of rice. Thanks guys.

We finished the night off with a few games of Skipbo.  Susan was not sleeping, she was talking to Archie who was under the table.  The girls claimed they were winners even though the guys won 2 out of 3 games. Different math I guess.  Good Nite!

A Few Projects and Supper with Friends

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

I got up a wee bit earlier this morning for no apparent reason.  I just woke up earlier!!  Archie said Oh no oh no and buried his head in the pillow for a few more minutes sleep.

When we first arrived here, I got my painter guy to quote me on doing a 3 inch strip of paint along the roof line, plus paint my front two fender skirts on the MH.  He quoted me like 300 bucks.  I decided that because where the paint is, it doesn't have to match any other paint that close, that I would do the job myself.  I got busy and spent about 10 minutes taking the skirts off so I can sand them sometime.  Manana maybe, or maybe not!! LOL

That was enough of that project for today.  The other thing I had to do was to re-enforce the fenders on the jeep.  I got out the screw kit and fixed that problem lickety split.  I almost wore myself out doing projects today and spent a good 25 minutes completing both!!

Everyone seemed to have the same idea today and went into the pool.  Almost everyone from the park was in there staying cool.

For supper tonight we had reservations at Las Koritas with Irwin and Rhonda, and John and Susan.  As usual we received superb service and the food was amazing. Tonight I wore my Las Koritas shirt and I fit right in with all the crew.

They do all their ribs on the BBQ right there beside us.

It was interesting when a mule and rider wandered by our table.  He had a big wave for everyone.

Some of us headed down to get a churro and then picked up some frappes and smoothies at Kenia's.  Mmmmm, they are so good.

That was it for today.  We went home with smiles on our faces!!  We thought of our friends Tom and Norma in Magnolia Beach Texas when I saw this. They are from Boston area originally and speak like that.   Good Nite!!

Lunch at Tina's

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

I had no reason to go anywhere until this afternoon.  Kenia's grandma, Tina had invited me to bring my friends for pisole at her house today.  She does pisole almost every Saturday, so we gathered a group and away we went.  Most of us walked and our path took us by Sergio's.  He was being a ham today showing off the signs he painted for us last year.  One is Sue and I and the other is Sheri and Dani.

We arrived at Tina's about 2:30 and she was all ready for us.  I am always kidding her about drinking tequila, so she was quick to set a bottle in front of me.  I fooled her today and poured a shot and downed it.  It was very smooth.

We had a very nice lunch with some of our good friends.

Linda, Sue, Tina, Suzie, Susan, John, Irwin, Rhonda, Suzanne, Normand and Me.

Kenia's mom, Saida has a new job with the Decameron Hotel as security.  She looks good in the uniform and posed for a picture or two.

Saida's granddaughter and Kenia's niece Katherine is doing a fundraiser at school so we passed the box around and gave her some peso's.  I think the one that raises the most money is like a princess in one of the festival parades.  Hope she wins.

We had some Dorado for supper up on the balcony tonight with Irwin and Wanda and John and Susan.  It was real good but we were all still kinda full from lunch.  Back home and some TV and that was it for our day.  Good Nite!!!
