Wanda is Back Home

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

Today we had a little entertainment around the park. One of the guys from next door shinnied up the palm tree and was up there quite a while throwing down dead branches and palm husks.  I think they use them for firewood.  Anyway, he had no safety rope or anything.  He just wrapped his bare feet around the trunk and with the help of his hands, up he went.

I was checking FB today and Sheri posted a picture of one of the things she has as a special today at Cj's on Ice for the bonspiel.  I could not for the life of me figure out why anyone would want a pile of sausages and not even on a plate.  Turns out they were bread sticks.  LOL   Do you see how I was fooled?

Sue let me know that Wanda was doing just fine and they had some pretty good service at the Hospital CLISAC.  It is a regular Mexican hospital which is good rather than the Private Hospitals in PV.  There was the language barrier to some extent but they dealt with it.

They even saved Wanda's appendix in a bottle to show her.

Apparently she had a nice room with good care. She even got a bowl of soup which was a chicken leg with the skin still on it.  I'm not sure I would ever get used to that but the Mexicans seem to like it that way.

So all in all Wanda was pleased with the care she received.  She was in the hospital for about 24 hours in total. They have to pay the hospital bill before leaving and then they will claim it on their medical insurance for a refund.  The total bill for the hospital care and operating room was 11400 pesos which is about $890.00 Cnd.  That did not include the Surgeon and when he came in to talk to them before discharging Wanda, they expected to pay him.  Nope, he said just pay Dr. Alex back in Las Ayala on Monday.  That is trust because Wanda could just head for Canada and leave the bill behind.  Of course they will not do that but that tells you a little about the type of people Mexicans are.  They are not entirely sure what the surgeon and Dr bill will be but I will update on Monday.  The main thing, Wanda is doing well, but will require a little bit of rest.  By the time they got on the road it was already dark so they drove home on the 200 in the dark.  Irwin did a good job of navigating the dark windy mountain road for a couple hours.

We checked out the sunset tonight and the sun is starting to set a little farther to the right every day.  It will soon be going down over the ocean.  Good Nite!

  1. Definitely bread sticks. Lol. However at first glance they do resemble sausages.
Happy to hear Wanda is on the mend and all are home safe and sound.

  2. Just for contrast, ten years ago I experienced basically the same issue while at a boat show in Anacortes, WA (we live in BC). Ended up in the local hospital, had my appendix removed and spent a week at the hospital recovering. Total bill, around USD 35,000. Our travel insurance covered the whole cost - they paid the bills directly. Travel insurance - never leave home without it (even if you are just visiting another province)!

  3. That's incredible! Glad she is home and recovering. The bill is certainly a bonus!
