We did an interesting little tour today. Our friends George and Henny lent their yellow jeep to us for the day so we had enough room for everyone to go. It's great to have all the kids here, but it does create some logistical problems. Thanks to George for making the logistical problems go away.
We headed north about 80 kms to San Blas to do a crocodile tour in a boat. We have done the tour before and thought it would be good for the kids to see. The village it is in is actually called La Tovara. We got there around 10:30 so it wasn't very busy. I always seem to stoop to talking about bathrooms, but for anyone not familiar with Mexico, here is a bano (pronounced banyo). You first have to figure out if you are an hombre or a majar!! So once you check and confirm what you are you pay the lady at the door like 5 peso's for a guy to pee or 10 pesos if you need the little pad of toilet paper or just a straight 10 pesos if you are a girl. You don't get a roll of TP but rather a portion about 18 inches in length!!! So you have to do a little figuring on how messy this operation will be. LOL. Then you get in there and there are no toilet seats!!! You have to either hover or dip!! And yes the water can be cold!! Well if you dip too deep you will need more than that single pad of TP!! Too late to run out and get one now, and they don't deliver!!! Such is the dilemma of the Mexican bano!!!

After that experience, we got right on a Panga (boat) and off we went.
We saw lots of different things in our tour which took about a half hour one way.
A heron sitting on a branch |
A baby crocodile. Only 2 out of 100 babies survive. |
An iguana sitting on a dead tree. |
A boa constrictor in a tree |
A turtle and a croc. Apparently crocs will eat turtles if they are hungry |
They keep cool by breathing through their mouths |
The tour was probably 6 or 7 miles long in a narrow winding river. It was very scenic and all the wildlife were in a natural habitat in the wild. This was not a zoo or anything.
When you get to the far end you can get off the boat and spend some time at the restaurant and swimming hole. The water is crystal clear and the pool is probably 20 to 30 feet deep. They have a rope swing and a jumping dock for added fun.
While we were there we observed some other wildlife.
A racoonish type creature |
some pretty butterflies |
Some fish swimming in the pool |
No we did not see any, but there are jaguars running in the wild in this part of the country. If you go further up the river to the sanctuary they have one there. We went there last time and don't really recommend it!!
It was a wonderful day and I hope it is something the kids remember for a long time. We headed back home in time to have a quick couple games of Skipbo with the kids.
We ended the day off with a trip downtown for a churro. Not a bad thing!! Good Nite!
Wow, another busy day. Looks like fun!
