Its the final day of Carnival here in La Penita. Fat Tuesday I believe. There will be lots going on today and I imagine the music will play far into the night!!
I happened to look at my weather app which I rarely do, and it seems we are going to experience some cool weather for a few days. That might be nice because things are going to heat up a bit here soon.
Last night I had to turn our power off for a couple minutes and then when I went to turn it back on the breaker would not trip into the on position. It wasn't like anything was wrong power wise, just that the breaker felt broke. Oh well, we just ran off the inverter for the night and this morning I got busy and removed the breaker. Yup the one terminal was fried and it was from not being fully engaged with the connections in the box.
So downtown I went for a new one. 82 pesos for a new one. That's like 5 bucks. I'm sure they are 20 bucks or so at home. Problem solved.
Shortly after that a guy showed up to trim up the coconuts from the tree across the way. There is a fear some of them might fall and hit someone on the head.
First thing he did was sharpen his manchette.
Then up the tree he went using rope stirrups to help him along. He even posed for a picture.
Yup that's him way up there. To avoid hitting the campers below he tied the clumps of coconuts to a rope and lowered them down. Kinda looked like a spider climbing down the tree.
We managed to sneak in a quick lunch at El Pollito's with George and Henny who have just returned from a trip to India. They have some great stories to tell. Welcome back!!!
About 6 we (Rhonda, Lena, Karl, Susie, Sue and I) headed downtown for the desfile, (parade).
We were witness to the slowest parade we have ever seen. It took like an hour for about 6 floats to go by. People were making their own entertainment with the spray foamy things drawing pictures.
The police were everywhere sporting their machine guns. It is almost intimidating to us foreigners but if you stop and talk to them, they are friendly as can be.
Kinda funny because we spotted these bandit sort in the carnival trying to win a bottle of Tequila using pretty close replica's of the real machine guns.
I managed to score another Ferris wheel ride with Rhonda tonight because no one else really wants to risk it. It was fun again.
Miss Nayarit 2022 even posed for me to take her picture. Very pretty lady.
A great fireworks show right over our heads. In fact all the fireworks were shot from the middle of the crowd. The debris was raining down on all of us and it was loud.
We had a quick frappe at Kenia's then watched a few dancing horses and off to home we went. Good Nite!!
What a fun place. Loved all the pictures.
ReplyDeleteGreat finale, too bad the parade was so small and slow, however sounds like they know how to entertain themselves. Some ride ferris wheels.
ReplyDeleteMiss Nayarit is lovely!
