WHERE ARE WE? Rest Area, Tillimook Oregon
Before we left this morning I went across the road to a little Cemetery that dates back to the 1800's. It was very small so I went inside to check out the dates. Lots of kids buried here. It was also noted that the cemetery had been eroded at some time and then put back together. Many of the name plates were made the same so I'm guessing the originals were swept away.
Then I stumbled across a strange headstone. It seemed that somebody mowing the grass in the cemetery came to a sudden demise somehow. His buddy was kind enough to make him a headstone. Hopefully his buddy was not responsible for his untimely passing!!!
Yep we made it out of Washington and into Oregon. The morning was quite misty as we hugged the coast. There was also a lot of mist coming off the ocean because this area seems quite shallow and there is probably a quarter mile of foamy wave whitewater so it stirs up the moisture.
Here is our route for today. We travelled 215 kms today which is about 135 miles I think.
We went through a few little quaint towns and stopped at various rest areas today. It took us about 8 hours to travel the 200 kms. Between Sue and I we got a few pictures to share.
So Sue and I both took a couple pictures of the same things. You can tell she has the photographic eye!!!

We just had to stop and see the Tillimook Cheese Plant. Anyone who appreciates good cheese will agree that Tillimook is among some of the best. Well I got to admit that New Bothwell back home, does a good job as well. Tillimook is promoted by Costco as well. We went upstairs to do the tour and there were a few guys working in the cheese making part of the plant, however the packaging side was shut down for the day. I hope to come back tomorrow to see it all working.

These blocks of cheese are boxed and sent to a storage facility to be aged for months and sometimes many years!!! Tillimook has 35 million lbs of cheese in storage right now and it is not brought out to package until it has cured enough.

Anyway that was our day. We found a nice spot to rest for the night and may come back to Tillimook tomorrow. In the meantime, Good Nite!!!!
An interesting day! The cemetery stone was very informative. Lol.
ReplyDeleteThe third picture is amazing. I can’t tell which way the water is going (in or out) and which side is shore or water. A great pic.
That’s a lot of cheese! I don’t think I have ever had Tillimook cheese.
Great little overnight spot. Stay safe.

I laughed at that headstone! Very original, did he bury his buddy too? Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteWe love Tillamook cheese, it is what we try to buy when in Arizona, also their ice cream. Yummy! Like our Chapman's ice cream back home.
We sell Chapmans at Cj's!!! Best in the west from the east!!!
