When we got up this morning we headed back to the Tillimook Cheese Creamery to check out how the production line works.
Yesterday when we were there, the workers had gone home for the day. It is amazing how this whole thing works like a well oiled machine. I was impressed with the amount of QC there was. There were probably about 6 stations checking and re checking that everything was right. It was worth the time to go back to see it.
Tillimook Creamery is owned by a group of farmers and is like a coop. All around Tillamook are dairies so it is probably one of the main agriculture things around here.
Tillimook also makes ice cream and they sell lots of it to everyone who comes to tour the plant. I didn't ask but I bet there are 2 or 3000 people tour here every day and I bet they all buy an ice cream. Being in the Ice Cream business myself it was interesting to look at their flavour board. They have over 40 flavours displayed so we are not doing bad at home with 24 or so flavours!!!
Next thing on the agenda was the Tillimook Air Museum. It was hard to miss the sign on the side of the hanger. The hanger is a former blimp hanger and is huge. It is 300 ft tall and almost 1100 feet long and probably 200 feet wide. The main structure is made of wood with a metal cover. There used to be 2 hangers here, but the other one burned down in the 90's.
They have a nice RV parking area right in front of the hanger. You can see how big the building is. The aircraft outside is what is known as the "Guppie". It is pretty big inside and was used to carry lots of big things.
The displays were good. They had some good displays and I did get into one of the jet cockpits. I sat there thinking about the fact that some kid, probably 18 or 19 flew this at one time knowing he may never make it home. I always think of soldiers as grown men, but most were just kids back in the post war times.
A couple of the plaques on the wall made me think about all the statues and historical things we are doing away with cause it hurts someone's feeling. Well they better never forget about this stuff!!!
Our trip today was a short one but we got to go down a narrow little road all along the ocean for a few miles. It was sure pretty but a long way down if you drove off the road!!
And the road led us to Moolack Beach Parking area where we spent the night.
That's us way up there on the cliff above the beach. Good Nite!!
An interesting drive, glad you kept the rig between the lines. The tours looked fun, there is so much to see if we take the time to look. Enjoy the sand between your toes. Safe travels.
