Yes we are back in California. We have headed down Highway 395 south of Reno to check out the stunning mountain views.
We headed through Reno and although everyone might say that we should have stopped for a look around. Really there was nothing in Reno we wanted to see and we did get the bragging rights to say we have been here. We saw the iconic Atlantis Casino that was a hangout for the big names back in the 70's.
A few ski runs up in the mountains south and west of Reno. Possibly the back side of Lake Tahoe resort.
We stopped at Carson City at Costco for gas because it is $4.25 a gallon. Most other places are 5.50 or so. We also had a craving for McDonalds which lasted for about 5 seconds after we started to eat it. Burp is all I can say!!! Archie liked it.
We saw some very nice mountain scenery and everything that goes along with it. Bridges and lakes and tall tall mountains. We even went over one of them today with a maximum of 8200 feet at the top of the pass.
We stopped at an overlook at about 7000 ft up and looked down on Mono Lake about 1000 feet below us. Archie loved the view!! If you look in the second picture you can see the road way down there. We had to wind around the mountain for about 5 miles to get down there.
A little tidbit here. I am keeping track of my gas mileage for the trip as best as I can. When we started the trip I just did the MPG based on the fuel we put in the tank. I wasn't happy with the mileage and finally realized that we are running the generator for at least 3 hours every night. The manual says it burns about 1/2 gallon US an hour, so I added in a calculation to remove the generator gas from the calculation. Now our actual gas mileage is more realistic. The dollar amounts still reflect the total amount of gas burned including the generator.
We are in a gravel parking lot across from a museum in the town of Lee Vining. We will call it a night here. Who knows where we might go tomorrow. Good Nite!!
Sounds like you are enjoying the Journey and in our book that is what counts. Continued safe travels.
ReplyDeleteIf it's not too late, Bodie Ghost Town is right there. I used to play there when I was a kid. The scenery is beautiful around there.
