A Trip to Chacala

WHERE ARE WE? Numero UNO RV Park, La Penita, Nayarit, Mexico

This morning the painter Josue came by to test fit a fiberglass fender on Normands Motorhome.  Normand had a wee accident and broke one corner of his back fender but Josue said no problem, I will fix.  He had the prototype today and it seemed to fit quite well.  He said he will be back on Friday with a more finished one.  I'm excited to see what he can do from scratch.

Today we decided to head up the road about a half hour to Chacala to sit on the beach and to have lunch with Ken and Rhonda.  It was quite hot when we got there and I did manage to get a little pink over my tan.  That's a good thing except the old shnozz took a beating!

I mentioned that we came here for lunch as well and thats what we did after a couple hours of sunbathing.  We went to a restaurant called Lalaxtli.  They also do all kinds of awesome breads which they sell at the La Penita market.

Sue had French toast and the rest of us had sandwiches.  We expected a sandwich which is two slices of bread with whatever in it.  Instead we got two sandwiches (4 slices of bread).  It was enough to feed two people easy enough so I brought my extra one home.  Good deal indeed.

The restaurant setting is in the ruins of an old stone building and is very nice with a view out over the marina and the bay.

The beach at Chacala is quite nice and can be very touristy, but mid week it is quite quiet.  Just right for us.

Before we headed for home we got to see an eel wash up on the beach.  It sort of stayed on the sand waiting for a wave for a while.

Once it realized that there was an audience gathering it did the weirdest thing.  It began quickly burrowing into the sand, TAIL FIRST!  Very quickly it disappeared with only its wee head sticking out.  And there it stayed even after a wave went over it.

Because the sun went behind a cloud and the breeze got up, we didn't go in the ocean at all so we headed for home about 4 pm.  We had a nice swim in the pool when we got there and got to meet and chat with the new people in the park, Wade and Melissa.  About 9 pm I headed downtown to move Kenia's Cafecito for her again.  Tomorrow is market day so it has to go around the corner again.  We got it all parked in its spot and that was it.  Good Nite!!

  1. I have only ever seen a Lamprey eel which is black, but that was definitely an eel head. What an interesting creature you found.
What an interesting place you visited as well. It looked very inviting and very Caribbean tucked back in the shade. The French Toast looked pretty good but it would need some syrup. lol. The sandwiches which I couldn’t see well looked well toasted and lots of lettuce. A good start for most sandwiches! lol
Our noses and foreheads always pink up very easily.
