Happy Valentines Day Everyone. We had a fun day planned for today. Our friends, Reg and Linda are having a winter holiday in PV and have invited us to join them today and spend some walking the Malicon. So we set out about 8;30 to meet up with them. The drive took about 1:30 minutes plus they are an hour later than us so it was almost 11 by the time we got to their hotel. They are just off the Malicon. Shortly after we set off on our Malicon tour.
We figured out that it has been 14 years since we have walked the Malicon in PV. We came here on a tour when we were on holidays with Cam and Jill back in, I think 2010. I did remember parts of it like all of the statues along the way.
Not too far into our walk we saw the 4 guys that swing from a pole on ropes which unwind as they swing, and lower them to the ground. Pretty neat I must say.
A little bit of the scenery along the way.
Actually and abandoned building |
These were real people |
When we got near the far end of the Malicon we saw the pier so we went out on it. The wind was quite brisk today so we didn't stay very long.
Our friends from summer camping are here somewhere in amongst these buildings, but we didn't have cell service so could not contact them. Sorry Roxanne and Alice. See you in the summer instead!! I'm not sure if they are jets fans or not!!
One of the neat things we saw today was an old church. Churches are all unique and it is nice to check each one out. There was mass going on in this one.
Another thing we saw was the chalk drawings in one of the squares. They had a contest on last Thursday and Friday, but the drawings are still here. There were some pretty talented artists.
Time for lunch! We went to a nice little Italian place down in the Romantic Zone, and had pasta and pizza and all things Italian, served by a Mexican. It was really good!! Thanks Reg and Linda!!
After a big lunch it was time for a nap. Linda found a nice beach chair to spread out on for some shut eye. What a neat idea for beach chairs!!
So I will finish with a bit of an explanation of what the Romantic Zone is. It is an area of PV that is popular area for Gay people. We did see lots of them as we ate our lunch so knew we were in that area. Lots of the shops cater to them and I was checking out this shop, when a lady walking by said, "that would look good on you!" I don't know why, but she chuckled after she said it. I will just leave you with a vision!!! Either the pink one or the blue one? Good Nite!!!
Malicon looks like a very interesting place. Love all the statues. My favorite is the 💃 🕺 dancers..
ReplyDeleteLol, if i have a vote, it's that id rather stay out of your last decision!! 😄
I’m wiping the coffee off the screen, pink or blue! Maybe she meant the cover up. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI’m guessing the church was RC, Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday (often called Pancake Tuesday) is followed by Ash Wednesday (the Church service you mentioned in this post), which is the beginning of Lent, (which last 40 days) and brings us to Easter.
I enjoyed the stroll, some fantastic chalk work! The living statues are common in New Orleans and a joy to see. I have never witnessed a couple together, only individuals. My favourite non living statue was the fancy dancers, the dress was fabulous.
It looks like great fun to have spent the day with friends doing some touristy things. Thanks for sharing.

Great photos, Lorne. I'm glad to see you made it to the chalk art festival and that, even with the rain we've had, the artwork still looks good.
