Kenia dropped by for a visit today. It's always a pleasure to have her smiling face around. I think she sometimes gets a little bit lonely because her work hours sort of infringe on a normal 21 years old's social time. She must be bored if she is ok hanging with us old people.
The other reason Kenia came by was so she and I could go down town to buy a cake. Tonight is the night that we will have tamales which is part of the Kings day tradition that we did with the cake and the little baby Jesus back on January 6. Anyone who gets a baby Jesus in their cake has to supply tamales normally on February 2 which is Dia de la Canderlaria or Candlemas Day. The day is 40 days after Christs birth and was the day Mary went to the temple to be "purified" as mandated by the law of Moses. Mary brought candles to the temple which gave the celebration its name. On January 6, Sue got a baby Jesus along with 3 others, so they chipped in to get a lady to make tamales for us. We also agreed to provide desert for the occasion. We arrived at Abuela's about 4:30 as discussed and of course no one was there. About 5:30 the tamales arrived and so did some of the family. Kathrine was up to no good in the sink. What a little card she is.
So once the family arrived we got out the tamales. We had cheese ones, Chicken ones and Pork ones. They are good but a couple is all I want to eat at one time.
There is always lots of fun and laughter after everyone gets their belly full. We have found that we are catching more and more Spanish and they are all catching more and more English, so we sort of know what is going on most all the time.
One thing we did this year was to bring down our blow up movie screen and projector for Kenia. She wants to do movie nights at the Cafecito. So tonight was the night to set it up. There were a few kids came and watched Rio. Our projector is a small one so it is not very bright especially where there is other light to compete. They liked it anyway so I think it was a hit.
I got bored and went to see what was happening at the church next door. They had some sort of a baptism of kids happening. Kinda neat to watch.
We stuck around and watched Kenia make all sorts of stuff before heading home for the night. She has Oscar helping her so we didn't worry about taking down the screen. Good Nite!!
