Pool Construction the Mexican Way.

WHERE ARE WE? La Penita, Mexico

We have that little pool project going on next door to us and it is getting really interesting.  My post today will be more interesting to the guys, than to the gals.  Sorry!!  I talked to the owner, Donna, the other day and she said, come on over any time you want to watch the project so today I did just that.  John and I wandered over and checked out the new pool in progress.  This is what it looks like right now.

All of the different levels of the concrete work are drawn out on a concrete wall near the new pool.  These are the benchmarks they use to make sure everything is going in level.  You can see all the different marks drawn on the wall.

The boss of the project was laying the interior bricks of the pool.  There is an inside and outside brick wall with concrete poured in the middle.  It will be like Fort Knox when it is done.

We were fortunate enough to be there when they mixed up a new batch of concrete.  No electric mixers for them, it is all handmade!!   First a wheelbarrow of sand.

Then add a bag and a half of concrete mix.

Then dry mix it all.

Then they did the same thing my mom used to do when she was making a cake.  She would make a big divot in the pile of mix and pour in the liquid, in this case the water.

Then just a bunch of mixing in a lot of unique ways so that the water did not spill out over the edges.  It wasn't long and they had a nice pile of concrete ready.

The boss man was taking a break while waiting on a new batch of concrete.

They got busy and got some ready for him.  It is all carried in 5-gallon pails on their shoulders and passed down into the pool.   That is how it is done here in Mexico.

That was how we spent an hour or so this afternoon and before long it was ready to go eat.  Yes, more eating.  Abuela Tina and her family have invited us to join them in their Casa to be pampered with a rib supper.  It was almost a Gringo type with Ribs, Mashed potatoes, and Macaroni and cheese.  It was super good, and I even had seconds, burp!! The only thing not gringo, was the tamale we got to taste before supper.  I had never had one before and I really liked it.   I will spare you a bunch of pictures, but I have to do the traditional one.

We spent some time watching the truckers and all of the people heading to Ottawa today to lobby to get our rights and freedoms back.  We wish the Freedom Convoy 2022 "Bearhug" speedy success.  This picture from FB kinda stuck a chord with me.  We hope that everyone values their freedoms as the Charter provides for us, and never let them be taken from us.  Goodnight.
